Wilma Deering is a fictional character featured in the various iterations of Buck Rogers which have spanned many media over the years.Through all the versions of Buck Rogers, Wilma Deering has maintained some clear characteristics. She is a sometimes romantic interest for Buck, always a loyal defender of Earth, and an attractive and smart woman. She is generally depicted as having a spunky attitude and a penchant for getting herself into trouble. As with other science fiction heroines from the pulp sf genre and others, she has sometimes been depicted as a damsel in distress but mostly as an assertive adventurer in her own right. In this way, her character resembles that of Dale Arden of the Flash Gordon comic books and movie serials, and also the character of Lois Lane from Superman.

Le Capitaine William Buck Rogers, un astronaute du XXe siècle en mission pour le lancement d'une sonde spatiale, se retrouve mystérieusement dans un état léthargique et son vaisseau en orbite autour du soleil. 500 ans plus tard, son vaisseau est capturé par des aliens appelés Draconiens dirigés par la Princesse Ardala. Ranimé, il est renvoyé sur la terre avec à son bord un engin espion qui doit apporter aux aliens des informations afin de forcer les barrières de défense terriennes. Les forces terriennes l'interceptent mais ont tôt fait de le soupçonner d'être à la solde alienne...

The story begins with Buck Rogers (Buster Crabbe) and Buddy Wade (Jackie Moran) in the midst of a dirigible flight over the North Pole. They are caught in a savage storm and crash - but not before they release an experimental substance called Nirvano Gas that they hope will preserve them until rescue can arrive. The Nirvano Gas works, but the dirigible is buried in an avalanche and is not found until 500 years have passed. When Buck and Buddy are found, they awaken to a world ruled by the ruthless dictator, Killer Kane (Anthony Warde), and his army of "super-racketeers". Only those who live in the "Hidden City", run by the benevolent scientist Dr. Huer (C. Montague Shaw) and his military counterpart, Air Marshal Kragg (William Gould), resist the criminal rulers of Earth.
