Herbert Jefferson Jr. (born September 28, 1946, Sandersville, Georgia) is an African-American film, television, and stage actor. Raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, he graduated with honors from New York's American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1969. He is probably best known for his role as Lieutenant Boomer on the original Battlestar Galactica television series. Later, in the 1980 spin-off Galactica 1980, his character was promoted to Colonel in the Colonial Service, and had moved up in the chain of command to become the Executive Officer of the Galactica. Jefferson also starred as Roy Dwyer in Rich Man, Poor Man and Rich Man, Poor Man Book II, and in TV films such as The Law and The Bastard.
Jefferson also appeared in the pilot episode of the 1982 TV series Knight Rider as Muntzy, an undercover police officer and partner of Michael Long (who becomes Michael Knight).
His feature films include Private Duty Nurses (1971), Black Gunn (1972), Detroit 9000 (1973), Hangup (1974), The Black Godfather (1974), World War III (1982), Starflight: The Plane That Couldn't Land (1983), as a news reporter in the Ron Howard film Apollo 13 (1995), and a doctor in the Wolfgang Petersen film Outbreak (1995). In 2007, he appeared as Captain Gault, a freedom fighter, in the Internet mini series Star Trek: Of Gods and Men.
