Prema Tarangalu is a Tollywood film which released on October 24, 1980. This film was directed by S. P. Chitti Babu. This film stars Krishnam Raju, Jayasudha, and Chiranjeevi. It is a remake of famous Hindi movie Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978), which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna.

Synopsis

Orphaned and abused at a very young age, a young boy, Vijay struggles to make a living by slaving day and night, working in the house of a wealthy man named Ranga Rao (Kanta Rao). Ranga Rao does not like him. It is later revealed that another orphan had taken advantage of his kindness in the past, hence his animosity. Ranga Rao's young daughter Sujata, however, empathizes with the boy and they form a friendship. Eventually, he is adopted by a woman who also works for Ranga Rao. On the occasion of Sujata's birthday, Vijay who promised to replace one of her dolls which he had broken, steals an expensive doll from a shop to give as a gift. However, Ranga Rao refuses to let the boy attend the party and when Vijay breaks into Sujata's room to deliver the doll he is caught and accused of trying to rob the house. He and his mother are banished from Ranga Rao's home. Shortly thereafter, the mother dies, leaving young Vijay with the responsibility of looking after her daughter.

Hari and Shiva Prasad are siblings. Once Shiva breaks their family photo unintentionally, then Hari beats Shiva and escapes from home. Hari was brought up by a notorious smuggler (Kaikala Satyanarayana). The smuggler changes his name into Shri Krishna which was his demised son's name. A grown up Krishna (Krishnam Raju) is a womaniser and uses women for one-night stands and one of them is Asha (Jayamalini. He dearly loves Parvati (Jayasudha), a friend of his sister Madhavi (Madhavi). However Parvati and Shiva Prasad (Murali Mohan) love each other. When Krishna proposes to Parvati, she refuses. Jealous Krishna attempts to kill Shiva Prasad. Accidentally he saw their childhood photo and recognizes him as his own younger brother. He arranges the marriage of Shiva Prasad and Parvati. Shiva Prasad comes to know about the affection of Krishna on Parvati, he starts hating Parvati. To break the deadlock, Krishna kills himself.

Nagabhushanam and his son Nagaraju (Satyanarayana) runs smuggling and Illegal transport of forest produce in the Forest. Ramu (NTR) opposes and raises the villagers to fight against him. Padma (Jayaprada) Daughter of Forest officer (Jaggayya) loves him. One tribal lady Chilakamma (Jayasudha) also loves him as a brother. Nagabhushanam takes the help of Jaggu (Sridhar) to sent Ramu away from the forest. Later half reveals that Ramu was in fact a Forest officer in secret mission to investigate the case of Forest affairs. The story finally leads to the arrest of criminals.

Ramu (NTR) is a lorry driver who personally does not tolerate injustice anywhere. With his hard work, he soon becomes a lorry owner. Meanwhile, Chukkamma (Jayasudha), who runs a small hotel on the highway, and Ramu fall in love with each other. Kamal Babu (Mohan Babu) soon enters the scene, implicates Ramu in a smuggling case and succeeds in sending him to jail. How Ramu manages to prove his innocence and brings the story to its logical, happy end constitutes the rest of the narrative.

Balaram Krishnarju (Krishnam Raju) is a truck driver who works for a transport company owned by Raghupathi and Rangapathi (Ranganath & Ahuti Prasad). This is a story set to pre-independence period in India. A village landlord Kanakayya (Rao Gopal Rao) marries Sita (Jayasudha), who is young enough to be his daughter, with the help of village karaNam (Nutan Prasad).
