Paradesi (Malayalam: പരദേശി, meaning: foreigner) is a 2007 Indian Malayalam film written and directed by P. T. Kunju Muhammed and starring Mohanlal.

The film talks the issue of Indian citizens who left the country before independence in search of job, mostly to Arabia, and happened to reach Pakistan, and then when returned to the homeland, happened to be holding a Pakistani passport, and now is forced by the Indian authorities to leave the nation to Pakistan, which even the Pakistani authorities won't allow.

Synopsis

Paradesi tells the story of Valiyakaththu Moosa, an Indian Muslim who moves from the Malabar region of Kerala, India to Karachi, Pakistan during the British Raj in search of a job. Post-partition, he returns from Pakistan and settles down in Malappuram, Kerala. This man, who lives as a true Indian, doesn't get his Indian passport and thus an Indian identity in the official sense, even after 50 years of Independence.

Pakal Nakshatrangal tells the story of Siddharthan (Mohanlal), narrated by Siddharthan's son Adi (Anoop Menon) to his wife (Lakshmi Gopalaswamy)as the content of his new book. The film is a socio-centric story of education system that existed in the period 80's - 90's in Kerala. Divakaran, in search of a good job acquires fake certificates from Mysore TTC and becomes a teacher in a government aided lower primary school run by a corrupt manager. The thatched school is deplorable in every conditions. Children mainly comes for the food that is served. The teachers come mainly for getting the money and do not care about the kids or the facilities in the school. The corrupt manager runs the school as a business for getting grants and making money from appointments. In the climax the hero relaises his mistake from guilt which was seeded by his father and took form when the dilapidated school causes death of 3 students. In the turn of events Divakaran surrenders to police for using a fake teaching certificate. The narration is typical "Sreenivasan" style, through a cozy blanket of comedy, he explains the socioeconomic & political milieu existing in Kerala through a set of events. It is a relevant movie since contemporary incidents of the same nature are revealed through newspapers and increasing day by day even in the 21st century.

The movie has Navya Nair as Yamuna who is preparing for the big day in her life that is for her marriage. In comes a letter from her psychiatrist Ravi Varman (Suresh Gopi), who had treated her for schizophrenic disorder, three years ago. Ravi Varman now wants to meet her, as she is soon to witness some critical of the circumstances. Ravi Varman, according to his unsatisfied wife Jyothi (Shweta Menon), is more like a mentally challenged person than most of his patients, treating only one patient at a time, that too in an alien hill bungalow. Though the mental issues and associated unsettling hallucinations faced by Yamuna are confusing, Ravi Varman finds the root causes of continuous ‘vulture episodes’ through his travels into the subconscious mind and starts his treatments, finally to get the girl disowned by even her parents.
