Utharaswayamvaram is a 2009 Malayalam film by Remakanth Sarjju starring Jayasurya and Roma. M. Jayachandran did the music for this film.

Synopsis

The story is about Prakash (Jayasurya) whose father, Sreedhara Menon, runs a supermarket. Prakash’s father wants him to become an officer but Prakash’s interests lie elsewhere. After graduation, he is more interested in the activities of the village Arts club, than in looking for a job. He falls for a village girl, Uthara (Roma). But her rich father, Mahadevan fixes her marriage with another rich boy. The story builds up from here on.

The film deals with the small family of Unnithan (Nasir) & Ammini Kutty (Lekshmi) and their two daughters Parvathi (poornima) and Sarala (jalaja). Unnithan approves but Ammini Kutty initially can't accept her daughter's decision. Avarachan (Ummar), as Nasir's neighbour is an ex-service man who lives with his wife Annie (sukumary). They are extremely depressed because they have no children. Suddenly Biju (baiju) appears as Avarachan's illegitimate son but no one except Unnithan knows it. News of becoming a grandmother brings Ammini Kutty back to Parvathi. Avarachan dies one day. Ammini Kutty become suspicious that Biju is Unnithan's son. This breaks their relationship and they separate. Finally Balachandra menon takes the initiative to reunite Unnithan (Nasir) & Ammini Kutty .

The film is a journey through the minds of Mohanakrishnan, a fashion photographer living in Kochi. Certain strange happenings vex Rajalakshmi also, who seeks help from Sankaran. She doesn't know that the ghost of her husband is behind all these strange incidents.

Though they take some time to become friendly, they eventually become close. They decide to go to Malaysia to meet Soorya's girlfriend, because they want to be positive in their life. There is a scene with Kamal Hassan, who gives a pep talk on how he lost some of his close friends to cancer, and gives the four friends some confidence.And at last Soorya dies.
