The film stars Silambarasan and Rakshitha in the lead roles, while Ashish Vidyarthi and S. S. Rajendran play pivotal roles. Based on the Jagannadh's 2002 Kannada film Appu starring Puneet Rajkumar, the film was also remade in Telugu in 2002 as Idiot. The movie got mixed reviews from critics but was declared as a super hit at the box office.
Synopsis
Simbu is the son of a police constable. He gets into fights and ends up in jail where his own father gets him out on bail. While he is returning home from a party drunk, a group of college students beats him up. That is when Rakshita comes and takes him to hospital and gives blood. She is the daughter of a police commissioner. Later, he falls in love with Rakshitha. That leads to several problems which are faced bravely by Simbu in the later part of the film.Acteurs

Vichu (Silambarasan) is a quiet youngster brought up by the village priest (Nedumudi Venu) and his maternal grandfather. Owing to specific reasons, the caring elder has purposefully toned down (Simbu uses his eyes to convey the inner quietude of Vichu) the young boy's emotional quotient and has taught him a peculiar art of living. As a result, Vichu is soft-spoken, passive and is groomed to tolerate all sorts of malicious misdemeanors aimed at him. Vichu assists his grandfather in carrying out the religious rituals as well as being the care-taker of the temple. Vichu's only consolation comes in the company of his sweetheart Janu (Sana Khan). Janu's kiddish jokes and teasing remarks make up for all the precious and youthful moments he has missed in his growing-up years. The film has anti-Brahmin themes and follows many films of its class in projecting the Brahmin girls and aunts in a raunchy yet funny way.

The film is about Surya Narayan (Jeet) who was once a software engineer but quits his job to give it to his friend and is unemployed in the city of Cooch Behar. Poulomi (Sayantika Banerjee) is a girl from Kolkata who studies in college and comes to Cooch Behar for her vacation to stay with her elder brother Madan Mohan (Kharaj Mukherjee) and his wife. In this process Surya will have clash with local rowdy Shanatan Panja (Tamal Roychowdhury). Mistaking him to be one tapori, Poulomi hates him first but later on she realizes his true nature . She returns to Kolkata and lives with her older brother (Ashish Vidyarthi), a former builder and now a very powerful rowdy who is very possessive and protective about his sister. Surya follows Poulomi to Kolkata and works his way into their house with the help of Madan Mohan and finally both of them confess their love. There, Surya knows the flashback of Poulomi and how she is being chased by the notorious and cruel Tony Bharadwaj (Mukul Dev) assisted by his uncle (Supriyo Dutta) for marriage. Surya fights Tony, Poulomi's older brother kills Tony, and Surya marries Poulomi.

Unending caste discrimination surrounds Puliangulam and Vepangulam villages to such an extent that small incidents lead to shedding of blood to very large extents. Under such circumstances, Sakthivel (Simbu), son of Puliangulam Periyasamy (Raj Kiran), falls in love with Angel Devi (Sonia Agarwal), daughter of Vepangulam Soosai (Nazar). As Soosai comes to know of the issue and that his daughter is also in love with Sakthivel, he opposes the affair and decides to send Angel to a convent to become a Nun. She does not change her mind, even after everyone comes to know the truth that she is not Soosai’s real daughter. Just as arrangements are made for the final procedures for her to become a nun, there comes an opposition following which the story tells whether the two lovers unite.
