Engal Thanga Raja (Tamil: எங்கள் தங்க ராஜா) is a 1973 Indian Tamil film, directed and produced by V. B. Rajendra Prasad. The film stars Sivaji Ganesan, Manjula, Sowcar Janaki and Major Sundarrajan in lead roles. The film had musical score by K. V. Mahadevan.

R. Sattanathan (Major Sundarrajan) a leading criminal lawyer and Bangalore Ramaswamy (V. K. Ramasamy), Sattanathan's professional competitor were once friends but now foes. Sattanathan has vowed that he will win a case against Ramaswamy at least once in his lifetime, for which he even makes his son Saravanan (Sivaji Ganesan) study law, so that if not him at least his son will defeat Ramaswamy. But contrary to Sattanathan's expectation Saravanan falls in love with Ramaswamy's daughter Devi (Manjula). Helping them in their love is Ramesh (Nagesh) Ramaswamy's nephew. A lot of hilarious incidents and confusions follow before the lovers are united.

Maadhu (Nagesh) is a destitute orphan who performs odd jobs in a multi-family tenancy for a living. For the services he renders, he's allowed to sleep under the stairs of the tenancy. He also attends college with the help one of his professors. Among few people who understand his situation, and are ready to help are Major Sundrarajan and Nair (Muthuraman). He overhears one of the tenants speaking to her husband of getting him married to their daughter (Jayanthi) who is said to be psychologically challenged. He forcefully makes his mind to love their daughter even before they propose a marriage, so as to calm himself that the girl is none other than the girl he loved and not some unknown psychologically challenged girl. How she proves that she's indeed a normal person and also helps Maadhu to prove his worth forms the rest of the plot.

Sethu, an orphan is a patient who is constantly playing pranks on the other hospital patients, the nurse in-charge and the doctors. A romantic bond develops between a young doctor, Indra and another patient, a football player, Arun much to the chagrin of her father, the senior most doctor in the hospital. The football player has a greedy brother who tries to arrange for his sibling to be killed. How Sethu, on learning that he is terminally ill cherishes the short time he has to live and takes it upon himself to unite the lovers forms the rest of the story.

Gopal (Sivaji Ganesan) is a rich businessman en route to India from Singapore on a cruise ship. He meets Latha (Saroja Devi), another traveller who has been accompanied by her father Ramadurai (V. K. Rajalingam (alias Raju) (Sivaji Ganesan) is the son of a wealthy Madurai-based industrialist, Sankaralingam (S. V. Ramadoss). Living with Raju is his driver and friend, Sundaram (Major Sundarrajan). While vacationing in his family estate at Kodaikanal with Sundaram and his family doctor, Gopal (S. A. Asokan), Raju meets Parvathi (Vanisri) and falls in love with her. Gopal too becomes smitten with Parvathi when he meets her whilst conducting her father's (Poornam Vishwanathan) medical treatment. Parvathi, who knows Raju through her father, as he is also an accountant of Raju's family estate, reciprocates Raju's feelings. Gopal decides not to reveal his love for Parvathi to Raju for Raju's sake. Raju and Parvathi marry in secret with the help of Gopal and the consent of Parvathi's father. The couple live together in Kodaikanal without disclosing the knowledge of their marriage to Raju's father, Sankaralingam.
