Synopsis
Vasu (Ajith), a final year college student is happy go lucky. But he is forced to contest elections in the college after being persuaded by his friends (Venkat Prabhu and Arun). He, however, incurs the wrath of the local MLA Varadharajan (Charanraj), whose son, studying in the same college, also contests the elections.Acteurs

Tirupathi (Mammootty) is the eldest of four brothers and the head of a respected family in the village. He has struggled to bring his family out of poverty and put his other two brothers, Kannan (Abbas) and Surya (Shyam Ganesh), through college. His younger brother Madhavan (Murali) has provided able support. Tirupathi marries Bharathi (Devayani) who fits into the family admirably. Siva (Madhavan)comes to Chennai to continue his studies. He meets Priya (Meera Jasmine) and falls in love with her at first sight. Priya warns Siva that her brother (Atul Kulkarni) is a gangster and if he doesn't stop pursuing her, she will use her brother's influence to stop him. However, this only serves to strengthen Siva's resolve to win Priya's love. Soon, Priya starts loving him too. Ganesh (Parthiban), the product of a intercaste marriage, loses several prospective brides due to this and spends his time dreaming of marriage. On a busride to Chengalpattu to take up a promotion as bank manager, he is involved in an accident. The scene shifts to three months later when he finally shows up at Chengalpattu. Nandini (Devayani), living in the house opposite his, showers affection on him, giving him coffee, providing him with hot water, etc. But when he with his parents, visits her to talk about marriage, she rejects him. Revealing the real reason behind her attachment to Ganesh, she tells him of her ill-fated love affair with army officer Subramani (Ajith). Eager to send him on his way, Nandini sends a letter in Ganesh's name to Ganesh's home, accepting the latest girl they picked for him and Ganesh returns home to find arrangements for his wedding in full swing. Coincidentally, the girl turns out to be someone (Suvalakshmi) he had dreamed of marrying during his pre-Nandini days.
