La Diligence vers l'Ouest (Stagecoach) est un film américain réalisé par Gordon Douglas, sorti en 1966.

Il s'agit du remake du célèbre western réalisé par John Ford en 1939, La Chevauchée fantastique.

Synopsis

Une diligence tente de traverser une contrée désertique contrôlée par les Indiens. Lors d'une étape, les passagers de la diligence découvrent que toutes les personnes ont été massacrées. Ils vont devoir affronter l'attaque de leur convoi au cours d'une chevauchée dangereuse.

Deux ans après la fin de la guerre de Sécession, James Lassiter, ex-major sudiste, est arrêté par le capitaine Haven (ex-nordiste), pour avoir tué de sang-froid quelques Apaches (dont une bande a massacré sa famille), au moyen d'un fusil à répétition provenant d'un stock volé à l'armée. Lassiter révèle que l'arme lui a été vendue par l'ex-colonel sudiste Theron Pardee, lequel s'est réfugié au Mexique avec un groupe de fidèles. Haven propose alors à son commandant, le colonel Wagner, de franchir discrètement la frontière, avec le sergent Franklyn, habillés en civil, afin de récupérer les armes ou, à défaut, de les détruire. Pour ce faire, ils emportent un chariot de poudre et se font accompagner par Lassiter, qui a accepté de les conduire jusqu'à Pardee, ainsi que par un mexicain faisant office de guide, Juan Luis Rodriguez (un hors-la-loi échappant ainsi à la pendaison).

Opening his own detective agency, Alfalfa dons a deerstalker cap and rechristens himself "X-10, Sooper Sleuth." His first assignment: to find out who stole a box of candy from Darla. Suspecting that Leonard and Junior are the alleged culprits, Alfalfa and his chief (and only) operatives Buckwheat and Porky put a tail on the two youngsters. Unfortunately, the three junior gumshoes are sidetracked to a seaside amusement pier, where they find themselves trapped in a spooky-themed fun-house. Darla eventually discovers her candy was right where she left it- in her doll carriage. But it's too late: scared out of their wits by various ersatz ghosts, monsters and spooky moans and groans, our heroes vow to give up the detective business forever (as Alfalfa's "Out of Bizzness" sign on the door notes).

Until the end of the film, Spanky thinks Buckwheat is still a monkey. That was when he found out that the superintendent changed her mind and decided to let Miss Lawrence to attend the wedding after all and the school would be closed for a week. Then Buckwheat comes out and they all learn that Buckwheat did not become a monkey.
