Money Talks is a 1926 comedy film directed by Archie Mayo. The film stars Claire Windsor, Bert Roach, Owen Moore and Ned Sparks. It is written by Jessie Burns and Bernard Vorhaus, based on the story by Rupert Hughes. The film is considered partially lost.

Synopsis

Sam Starling (Owen Moore) is deep in debt, his wife Phoebe (Claire Windsor) is leaving him and still he is confident. When Phoebe boards a luxury yacht and is wooed by the captain, Sam comes aboard as a woman and tries to seduce the captain (in fact, a liquor smuggler), away from his wife.

Les sœurs Evans sont issues d'une famille pauvre. Couturière, Margie s'occupe de sa mère et elle est amoureuse de Jimmy, un chauffeur de camion d'épicerie. Elle rêve d'une vie plus fastueuse, enviant ses collègues mannequins qui reçoivent des cadeaux de clients fortunés. Elle voit avec satisfaction sa sœur Sophie épouser Alf, un homme riche, qui quitte leur logement modeste. Mais le bonheur conjugal ne dure pas : Alf perd son emploi et dépense tout son argent dans des tournois de billard. Ruiné, le jeune couple, qui vient d'avoir un bébé, doit revenir vivre avec Marge. L'argent vient à manquer et la situation devient ingérable. Alors qu'elle découvre que Sophie est à nouveau enceinte et qu'elle veut divorcer d'Alf, Margie, refusant de se marier avec Jimmy, n'a pas d'autre choix que de séduire un richissime playboy.

An American newspaper reporter named Charlie Carroll (Charles King) is sent to Venice to interview a Romanian general, who is played by Noah Beery. While in Venice Charlie falls for a young heiress named Nanette Dodge (Irene Delroy). When Charlie is unable to get an interview with the Romanian general, a local siren named Kunegundi (Vivien Oakland), who is the general's favorite helps him. Meanwhile, Nanette learns that her sister is being blackmailed by Prince Kasloff of Russia (Lowell Sherman), to whom she wrote some incriminating letters. Nanette attempts to vamp the Prince in order to obtain the love letters. The Prince, however, tricks her and demands that Nanette marry him if she wants to save her sister. After being repeatedly rebuked by Nanette, the prince hires the Romanian general (Noah Beery) to kidnap her and force her into marriage. Charlie, thinking she has eloped, consoles himself with Kunegundi (Vivien Oakland) and almost marries her until he realizes the truth about Nanette and that she has been kidnapped by the Prince. Charlie sets out to rescue her and when the Prince shows up disguised as the general he shoots Prince Kasloff. Charlie and Nanette are happily reunited.

Louie Ricarno, un jeune chef de gang à Chicago, devient le patron des bas-fonds de la ville. Il tombe amoureux de Doris, sans savoir qu'elle est en fait avec son second, Steve Mileaway. Pendant ce temps, Mileaway est incapable de mettre fin à une guerre des gangs qui s'est déclenchée à Chicago, il demande à Louie de rentrer pour reprendre les choses en main, mais ce dernier refuse. Pour le forcer à revenir, il décide de faire kidnapper Jackie. Hélas, comme il est approché par deux hommes de main, Jackie sent un danger et s'enfuit, mais il est renversé par un camion. Louie revient alors à Chicago pour se venger. Malgré les conseils du chef de la police O'Grady, il tue les coupables, mais est obligé de se cacher. Après quelque temps, il décide de sortir fièrement de sa cachette, sachant très bien que ses ennemis l'attendent dehors.

Sonny Boy's parents are in the midst of a bitter divorce when the boy's mother talks her sister into kidnapping him because she is terrified that her husband will take the boy out of the country after the divorce. The nervy sister takes the lad to the apartment of her sister's husband's lawyer who believes that she has gone away for a time. A merry mix-up ensues when he returns to the apartment with his parents in tow. To maintain appearances, the sister must pose as the lawyer's wife. Eventually she decides to take the boy and flee, but then she realizes that Sonny Boy has vanished. It seems he saw an interesting theater marquee, climbed down the fire escape, and went to the movies. The adults arrive just in time to hear a rousing rendition of the hit song Sonny Boy.
