Paalai is a 2011 period film written and directed by Senthamizhan, who had previously assisted director Ram in Katradhu Thamizh. Based on Sangam literature, the film is set in 300 BC years and starred Shammu and debutant Sunil Kumar in pivotal roles. The film released with little publicity in November 2011.

Murugan calms him.Without knowing his reaction to lies the same day in house Mayilu reveals to Chellapandi that she lied to him that she was pregnant as she fear of losing him.Then the audience were shown that Chellapandi gets treatment.Treated Chellapandi asks for Mayilu, Murugan recalls what happened on the fateful night when Mayilu told the truth to Chellapandi.Fearing the aggressive Chellapandi,the ignorant Mayilu though him as the manifestation of the local deity and hands over the "Aruval" to him and asks the deity to leave Chellapandi for the betterment of their life.And without his own conscious he kills her.The film ends showing him being arrested and leaving in van and watching the people who are going for local deity worship.

Shakthivel (Bharath) is the son of a wealthy industrialist and the managing director of Rajasekar Industries. His mother Kamala is suing the company because Shakthi insulted her for having an affair with the company auditor. To add to that, the girl he loved got married to someone else. Disgusted with life, he gets up and walks aimlessly, taking a bus to the Chennai Railway Station. There he boards the Pandian Express at night without a ticket and sits in gloom. Anjali (Tamannaah) is a college student who is going to her hometown Theni for vacation. Anjali is bubbly and talkative and thoroughly irritates Shakthi. She tells him of her plans to elope with her lover Gautham. At night, Shakthi leaves the train. Anjali wakes up to find him gone. Seeing him sitting on the platform, she gets off the train to bring him back. As a result she misses the train. She tells Shakthi that it is his responsibility to take her back to the train. Annoyed, he takes her to the next station so that she can board the train and leaves her. Anjali again misses the train. While she is waiting for a taxi to reach the next station, some gangsters chase her, but she runs into Shakthi who fights them off.

Vengadam (Prakash Raj) has been released from jail in 1948. He is only being escorted for two days (the reason not revealed) back to his hometown of Kanchipuram. He is being transported under the custody of two policemen on a bus from the jail. As the journey takes place, Vengadam recalls his past symbolically as several events that occur in the bus remind him of his past.
