Seerivarum Kaalai is a South Indian Tamil film released in 2001 directed by Ramarajan and film stars himself alongside Abitha of Sethu fame. The film also stars Manorama, Mansoor Ali Khan, Anandaraj.
Synopsis
Kaalai is the do-gooder always ready with a helping hand. Literally, because when women are pushed around and shoved, it is Kaalai who rushes with his arms readily extended to support them. And this happens a bit too often. Kaalai falls for his sister's friend Kamakshi (Abita) who is tortured and harassed by her sister-in-law Nandini (Vichitra), and Kamakshi's mother and brother (Manorama - Mansur) are helpless spectators. Once when Kamakshi's son gives her a violent shove, it is Kaalai who rushes and supports her in his arms. He sternly warns people that if they harass 'Amma', they would one day regret it.Acteurs

Moorthy (Vijayakanth) is a lorry driver, who lives with his mother Ram Aatha (Manorama) and often confronts the criminal Govindan (Anandaraj). Moorthy and Uma (Ravali) fall in love with each other. One day, her father has a heart attack, when Moorthy and Uma rush him to the hospital the roads were blocked by a local political party. Her father unfortunately dies, the angry Moorthy clashes with the political party leader Sigamani (Rajan P. Dev) in public. Later, Govindan joins his party and stands in election as well as Moorthy. In the meantime, Moorthy and Uma get married. The corrupt politician Sigamani orders to kill Govindan and blames the innocent Moorthy. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

The film is a story of romance that centers around two lovers: Devaa (Vijay) and Bharadhi (Swathi). The two are deep in love but encounter opposition from Bharadhi's father (Sivakumar), the head of the village. Sivakumar believes that his daughter's suitor is not a suitable one, due to his perceived reputation throughout the village. Although the son of the well to do Manorama, it comes to light that Sivakumar's disapproval stems from his relationship with his brother, who is seemingly apathetic and lackadaisical. The film ends happily with Sivakumar recognizing that his now son-in-law is in actuality a really upstanding citizen in the village. The two young lovers overcome all problems and live their lives happily married.
