It Was I! (Italian:Sono stato io!) is a 1937 Italian comedy film directed by Raffaello Matarazzo and starring Eduardo De Filippo, Peppino De Filippo and Titina De Filippo. The film was based on a play, which was later remade in 1973.

Oreste, un employé ministériel, perd à cause d'une spéculation hasardeuse une forte somme d'argent pour laquelle ses trois filles avaient cotisé pour la maison de campagne de la famille. Province of Rome, the early postwar years. Antonio, an unemployed middle-aged, married a rich woman, Teresa, who bullies: he lives in the countryside with his wife and daughter Valeria with the earnest and always without a penny in his pocket. Valeria makes the acquaintance of Albert, a young journalist, came to the country with the purpose of approaching and interviewing the bandit Ignatius said, "The Press", feared throughout the region for its daring enterprises. With the complicity of Peppino, the barber of the country, Toto pretends to his wife that he had been kidnapped by Ignatius and thus induces Teresa stingy to pay five million for his ransom. Ignatius accepts and Toto back home. After the wedding of Valeria and Alberto, Teresa's husband out of the house, warning him not to come back until you have made a stand. Toto, who has never worked, is reduced to make the "boy" in the workshop of Peppino.

Un bon ténor terrifié par le public est exploité par deux « camarades » Gilberto et Andrea. À défaut de se produire, caché derrière la scène, il « prête » sa voix à Gilberto de sorte que celui-ci devient célèbre à sa place, mais lorsque le succès arrive, le chanteur surmonte sa peur et reprend possession de sa voix.
