Suriyan (Tamil: சூரியன்: Sun) is a 1992 Tamil film directed by Pavithran starring Sarath Kumar and Roja in lead roles and produced by K. T. Kunjumon.Also India's biggest director Shankar worked on this movie as an associate director.

This big budget production won positive reviews and became the first major success for Sarath Kumar as a hero. The film became a blockbuster and was a trendsetter for action films in tamil . Certain scenes from the film were inspired by the 1985 Hollywood thriller Commando. It was also dubbed in Telugu as Mande Suryudu.

Diwakar (Sarath Kumar), an Indian brigadier, is charged to eradicate the terrorism in Kashmir. Diwakar lives with his beloved sister Anu (Shenbagam). His neighbour Priya (Priya) loves him. One day, the terrorists kidnap Anu and they kill her thereafter. In the past, Diwakar promised Anu to get married with Priya. Finally, Diwakar gets married with Priya. Maayi (Sarathkumar) is the well-respected, do-gooder in the village. He sees women in the village as his sisters and even conducts their marriages. He is a man who is ready to kill his father(Vijayakumar) when he learns that he had a second wife. But the father opts to kill himself rather than face his son and so, Maayi brings his stepsister Lakshmi (Suvalakshmi) to live with him. When the local MLA(Rajan. P. Dev) comes to him for support, he refuses and the MLA loses the election. But his son(Anand), who admires Maayi, marries Lakshmi. Meanwhile Bhuvaneswari (Meena), Maayi's sister's daughter, who comes to the village from Bangalore, wishes to marry him. Revealing his sad past, Maayi tells her why he can never think of marrying any woman. Later Meena was forced to married another guy. But during the marriage the guys family misunderstood that Meena and Sarathkumar are lovers and stopped the marriage. In the end; Sarathkumar married Meena.

Samundi (R. Sarathkumar), his mother (Varalakshmi) and his little sister Lakshmi (Sangita) shift to a little village. Ponnuthayi (Kanaka), a washerwoman, sympathize with Samundi's family and she eventually falls in love with him. Rajangam (Mansoor Ali Khan) and his brother (Uday Prakash) spread terror among the villagers. One day, the ringing of temple bells and the heralding of the festival throws him into an uncontrollable fit of rage. Ponnuthayi asked the reason of his rage and Samundi tells his tragic past. Samundi prepared his sister Rasathi's wedding and he took her to the temple. There, he clashed with some thugs. In the confrontation, Rasathi was pushed in the lake and drowned. The wedding was cancelled and Samundi's family left his village.
