Ajouter à une liste de filmsThe Bad Man is an American silent film western drama with prominently featured satirical and comedic elements, directed by Edwin Carewe, who produced it for his own motion picture company and adapted the scenario from the play by Porter Emerson Browne which opened at Broadway's Comedy Theatre in August 1920 and ran for a very successful 342 performances, closing in June 1921. The film version, from Edwin Carewe Productions, was released by Associated First National Pictures on October 8, 1923, with the title role played by the star of the play's Broadway and touring productions, Holbrook Blinn, and the other leading parts filled by Jack Mulhall, Walter McGrail and Enid Bennett.
Synopsis
The plotline has Lopez (Holbrook Blinn) and his band of outlaws living from the proceeds gained as a result of theft and confiscation of property, which means goods belonging to anyone wealthy enough to possess anything of value. One of those is rancher Gilbert Jones (Jack Mulhall), whose cattle losses are pushing him to the edge of bankruptcy.Acteurs

Loretta Young plays the part of an orphan who has been raised by two thieves (Raymond Hatton and George Barraud) and does not know that she has a twin sister who is now a wealthy socialite (Loretta Young as Margaret Waring). One day, while she is dining at a Chinese restaurant with her two guardians, they notice the wealthy socialite and are taken aback at how closely she resembles Young. Hatton and Barraud convince Young that she should impersonate the socialite so that they can enter her house and steal the contents of her safe. Young enters the house and meet Jack Mulhall who senses something different about Waring and immediately falls in love with Young. When night falls, Young lets Hatton and Barraud into the house and they attempt to open the safe. Waring happens to enter the house and is shocked to find a woman that looks like her. She is wounded by Barraud and Young tricks the police into thinking that Waring is an imposter and thief. Even though Mulhall knows the truth, he keeps quiet because he is in love with Young. Eventually Young discovers that Waring is her twin sister when they discover that they have matching lockets. The charges against Waring are dropped and Young accepts Mulhall's proposal of marriage.

Le ménage du professeur Jozef Stock et de sa femme Mizzie bat de l'aile. Stock souffre du peu d'attention de son épouse pour lui. Celle-ci, de son côté, entreprend de séduire le docteur Franz Braun, mari d'une amie de jeunesse, Charlotte. Franz et Charlotte forment un couple aimant mais ce dernier se défend mal des avances de Mizzie. Sa courtoisie et sa maladresse l'entraînent dans des situations compromettantes. Son collègue Gustav s'en aperçoit et cherche à tirer profit de la situation pour se rapprocher de Charlotte, à qui il ne cache pas son admiration. Quant au professeur Stock, il se réjouit de la possible infidélité de Mizzie qui pourrait lui donner un motif de divorce. Il s'empresse d'ailleurs d'engager un détective pour recueillir les preuves d'une liaison. Charlotte, enfin, ne se doute de rien mais s'étonne toutefois de l'intérêt que son mari semble accorder à une autre femme, Pauline Hofer, et demande à Mizzie de le surveiller. Les mensonges et chantages de Mizzie, les imprudences de Franz, et plusieurs quiproquos font craindre une rupture du couple jusque-là uni.
