The Coachman (마부 - Mabu) is a 1961 South Korean film directed by Kang Dae-jin. At the 11th Berlin International Film Festival in 1961, The Coachman became the first Korean film to win a major international award. It was nominated for the Golden Bear Award and won the Silver Bear Extraordinary Jury Prize.

Synopsis

Chun-sam est un père célibataire et un cocher qui tire la charrette de son maître pour gagner sa vie. Son premier fils Su-eob étudie pour un examen supérieur de la fonction publique, sa première fille est une muette marié, son deuxième fils ne fait que se battre tout le temps et sa plus jeune fille Ok-hee est mécontente de sa famille pauvre et rêve d'une vie meilleure par le mariage. Malheureusement un accident qui blesse Chun-sam va changer la vie de la famille.
