The Cowboy and the Lady is a 1922 American silent Western film directed by Charles Maigne and stars Mary Miles Minter and Tom Moore. Distributed by Paramount Pictures, the film is based on the Clyde Fitch Broadway stage play of the same name which starred Maxine Elliott and her then-husband Nat C. Goodwin. It was the last silent version of the many silent filming of the play and Minter's third to last motion picture. The film's survival status is currently classified as unknown, which suggests that it is a lost film.

"Happy" Farrell (Moore) wants to be a famous song and dance man. He befriends a young dancer, Leola (Love), who accompanies him to an audition. Leola is given a contract, but Happy is not. After three years, Leola plans to retire from dancing so that she can get married, but Happy returns to pursue his original dream. The film's subject matter deals with mysticism and reincarnation. Based upon a summary in a film publication, Nora O'Hallahan (Minter) comes to America only to find her mother dead. The Irish girl takes a position as the nurse for the Heath's child. Alice Heath (Minter) is killed and, after almost losing himself through his grief, the artist husband Roger (Holt) receives inspiration through Nora, who has grown marvelously like the dead wife through her love for the child. Nora's belief in the return of spirits is responsible for saving the child's life, while the artist feels that Alice has returned to him in the form of Nora, and he makes her his wife.

Based on a summary in a film publication, Maggie Wylie's (Wilson) father agrees to give John Shand $300 to help him secure his education and political ambitions on condition that Maggie have the option of marrying him within five years. By doing so the elder Wylie is giving the 27-year-old miss the chance for the romance she longs for and at the same time helping an ambitious young man. Shand agrees and within the allotted time is elected to Parliament. Maggie realizes that John does not love her, but he insists "a bargain is a bargain" and so they are married. John becomes very popular and is promised promotion through his excellent speeches, which are written mostly by Maggie although John takes credit. Eventually he falls in love with Lady Sybil (Tucker) and, although heartbroken, Maggie diplomatically arranges for John and Sybil to be together. John's next speech is a failure, but Maggie arrives in time with a new one. Lady Sybil tells John that he bores her and leaves. Gradually John comes to see Maggie's true worth and there is a reconciliation.

As described in a film magazine, Tom Brown (Moore), a student at Harvard University, is engaged to Evelyn Ames (Daly). Her brother has become desperately involved with Marian Thorne (Winston). In an effort to protect his fiance's brother, the stigma associated with Marian Thorne's condition rests upon Tom. Evelyn breaks her engagement. Wilton Ames (Greene) crowns his borrowing of money from Tom by stealing a blank check and forging it for $300 to get Marion out of the city so that her condition may not get known. Gerald Thorne (McGrail), brother of Marian and stoke on the Harvard crew, refuses to enter the race after he is given a spurious note from his sister saying that she is leaving the city and wants to see him. Brown is put in has place and the race is won. Following the race, Gerald confronts him and charges him with being responsible for his sister's downfall. Evelyn demands that Tom marry Marian when Wilton finally confesses that he is the man involved. With Brown shown in his true light a happy reconciliation follows.
