It was the fourth of the fifty-seven serials released by Columbia and their first western serial. The serial was the first from a new production company, the previous three serials had been produced by Weiss Brothers.
Synopsis
Wild Bill Hickok, U.S. Marshal in Abilene, Kansas, is sent to stop the mysterious "Phantom Riders" from disrupting the cattle drives across the Chisholm Trail and construction of a new railroad.Acteurs

Overland with Kit Carson is constructed upon a seemingly simple premise. Old Western settlers are being driven off their homesteads and ranches by a combination of Indian assaults and harassing attacks by bands of mysterious outlaws. Then, the US government sends out famed Indian scout Kit Carson and army officer David Brent to investigate the facts, and Carson discovers that a mysterious villain known only as Pegleg, who enjoys planning his misdeeds as much as carrying them out, controls an outlaw gang called the Black Raiders and is using them and the Indians to drive out the settlers so he can establish his own empire. By 1939, film-goers knew exactly what to expect from a western serial: a clean-cut, self-assured hero facing down a good-for-nothing villain in a tireless pursuit, the menacing Indians and gun-toting bad guys, the moral soldier and the pretty girl, a reckless boy, lots of action, the climactic final gunfight, and not much in the way of thematic depth.

Gene Autry (Gene Autry) and his sidekick Frog Millhouse (Smiley Burnette) decide to leave Gene's ranch in order to pursue cattle rustlers who have been terrorizing the range. The men they are following, the Apache Kid (Max Hoffman Jr.) and Black Jim (Charles King), kill two lawmen and exchange clothes with them. When Gene and Frog discover the bodies, they decide to take their clothes and, disguised as wanted outlaws, head for the border.

Dans l'incapacité de prévenir lui-même ses amis, il envoie son cheval Duke faire sonner la cloche d'alarme. Pendant ce temps, John et Bart desserrent les selles pour retarder la fuite des bandits. John et Bart se cachent dans les collines, et envoient Duke chercher de l'aide. Les policiers mexicains, prévenus par Mary, arrivent à temps.

After Professor Marsh disappears whilst searching for the lost city of Lukachukai, a party of anthropologists including Marsh's daughter Betty arrive in a Western town to prepare an expedition to look for him. Meanwhile, the Three Mesquiteers have discovered a delirious man wandering the desert and bring him to town where Betty recognises him as a member of her missing father's expedition. As the man slowly gets his memory back the party wishes to know the location of Professor Marsh and Lukachukai that contains an ancient legendary treasure. The man is murdered with a knife bearing an Indian description. The Mesquiteers recognise that the murderer is one of the party in the room. Keen on his detective magazine that he constantly carries with him, Stony and the Mesquiteers lead an expedition to find Professor Marsh, the lost city and its treasure and the murderer. Well armed devil worshiping Indians and walking mummies enliven the proceedings.
