Un musicien, Montgomery Royale (joué par George Arliss) donne un concert privé pour un monarque en visite officielle, et est blessé quand une bombe explose lors d'une tentative d'assassinat contre le monarque. Mme Clare Demarest, une riche Bostonienne, n'a pas réagi quand son fils Robert a épousé une danseuse contre son gré. Aujourd'hui, elle apprend que Lianne Demarest, la petite-fille qu'elle n'a pas vue depuis que la veuve de son fils l'a emmenée en France à l'âge de six ans, est appelée "Princesse Vertu" par la société parisienne, et notamment par son beau-père le comte Oudoff, un artistocrate russe. Mme Demarest dépêche Basil Demarest, un parent éloigné, pour vérifier si la société parisienne à la mode a irrémédiablement changé Lianne. Basil découvre une jeune femme capricieuse et superficielle, incapable de choisir entre le Baron Strensky et Emile Carre. Strensky provoque Carre en duel et blesse son adversaire, forçant Carre à abandonner ses prétentions sur Liane. Basil supplie Lianne de l'accompagner en Amérique, mais elle refuse. L'après-midi avant son départ, Basil et Lianne dînent dans un restaurant lorsque Strensky, avec qui Lianne est maintenant fiancée, entre dans la salle avec Mlle Sari. Basile confronte Strensky à son infidélité, et le Baron le provoque en duel, mais Lianne intervient en prétendant que Strensky est celui qu'elle aime. Découragé, Basil prend le paquebot pour Boston. En plein océan, il est agréablement surpris de découvrir que Lianne, ayant changé d'avis, est du voyage, et qu'il est son "Prince Amour".

As described in a film magazine, Jasmine Grenfel (Heming) forsakes her suitor Ian Stafford (Tearle) and marries Rudyard Byng (Lucas), who has worked his way up to the top rungs of success in the African diamond mines of the Transvaal. Stafford, saddened, goes to Africa. During the three years that follow Byng becomes dissipated. Adrian Fellowes (Doucet), his secretary, has intrigues with several women including the dancer Al'Mah (Deshon). He has also paid some attention to Jasmine, which has aroused the dancer's jealousy. Fellowes is found murdered and the husband and wife both suspect each other of the crime. At the outbreak of the Boer War Byng joins the army and Jasmine and Al'Mah join the Red Cross. The battles that ensue bring out the manhood of Byng. Al'Mah is struck by a fragment of a shell and in a dying confession admits the murder of Fellow. Jasmine and Byng are later happily reunited.

The Moving Picture World synopsis states, "Planter Middleton, of Kentucky, has two beautiful daughters. One of them is known as Tempest and the other is Sunshine, because of their different dispositions. Sunshine is wooed by Bill Jeffreys, the village postmaster, whom she does not love and rejects. Later her heart is won by young Dr. Lacey from New Orleans. Soon after they become engaged, the doctor is compelled to return to his home city on business. During his absence, Tempest, who is in love with him, conspires with Bill Jeffreys to intercept the lovers' letters. They succeed in making Julia and the doctor each think the other is untrue. The doctor, in a spirit of pique, decides to marry Tempest. Sunshine remains true, and confides to no one the sorrow that she feels. Just as Tempest and the doctor are about to be married, the ceremony is interrupted by Jeffreys, who confesses the plot — having left a sick bed to do so. The guilty ones are forgiven and the lovers reunited.

Though the film is presumed lost, a synopsis survives in The Moving Picture World from November 19, 1910. It states: "Paul and Virginia are two young lovers who have grown up together from babyhood. Their widowed mothers lived near each other in rude cottages, on an island in the Indies, on which there are few inhabitants. Here the children are reared, knowing no play fellows but each other. When Virginia is 16 years of age, her mother receives a letter from a wealthy aunt in Paris, who offers to make Virginia her heir and give her a good education, providing Virginia will, in the future, make her aunt's home her own. Virginia's mother, having lost her own fortune through marrying against the will of her family, feels that she must not let her daughter suffer the poverty that she has been compelled to endure. She accordingly insists upon Virginia's acceptance of her wealthy relatives offer. Virginia thereupon sets sail for France, leaving Paul broken-hearted at her departure. Virginia tries to be a dutiful niece to her aunt, who is very old and sickly, although she longs to return to her humble home and Paul, whom she dearly loves. When, however, the aunt insists that she marry a rich nobleman, Virginia refuses; her aunt disowns the girl and sends her back to the island home. Virginia's ship arrives at the Indies during a hurricane, and although a cable's length from shore, it sinks before help can reach it, and Virginia is drowned. Paul witnesses her death from the shore, and almost loses his own life in a vain attempt to save her.

Though the film is presumed lost, a synopsis survives in The Moving Picture World from August 13, 1910. It states: "At the opening of the play, Granny Nichols' only daughter is leaving the farm to go to the city in search of employment. We next find her in the city, married to a wealthy man who has forbidden her to make their marriage public as he is afraid his family will object. One day, after a year of happy married life, the husband leaves his wife and baby daughter to go downtown on business. Through a case of mistaken identity, he is arrested, and before he can prove his innocence, to the satisfaction of the police, his wife - believing him to have deserted her - takes her baby and returns to her mother. The husband, upon regaining his freedom and returning home, finds only a note from his wife saying that he will never see her or the baby again. He mourns his loved ones as dead, thinking that his wife left him contemplating the death of herself and her child. The mother and child return to the farm and there, with her dying breath, the mother entrusts baby Lena to the care of Granny Nichols. Here, on the farm, Lena grows to womanhood never knowing her father's name. When Lena is 16 her Uncle John decides to take his mother to live with him in the city. Granny refuses to leave without Lena, so she also moves to Uncle John's home. In the meantime, Lena's father is a frequent visitor to the home of Uncle John, whom he little thinks is any relation to his dead wife. Here he meets Lena, and espying a locket containing the picture of her mother, which she wears around her neck, recognizes her as his daughter. Not only this but lucky Lena is enabled to marry the man she loves.
