Selva Bharathy, which is a remake of the successful 2001 Telugu film, Nuvvu Naaku Nachav. The film featured Vijay and Sneha in the leading roles, while Vadivelu, Nassar and Manivannan played other pivotal roles. The film released on 15 January 2003 to positive reviews and was a commercial success. It was later dubbed in Hindi as Ek Aur Loafer. The movie was remade into Bengali titled, Majnu,directed by Rajib Biswas, starring Hiran Chatterjee, Srabanti Chatterjee.
Synopsis
Bhoopathy (Vijay) is a happy-go-lucky person who is very relaxed in life, as shown when he falls asleep in a train and misses his station. He goes to Villivakkam in search of Vishwanathan (Nassar) who is his father Mani's (Manivannan) best friend. Kattabomman (Vadivelu) is Vishwanathan's assistant who torments Bhoopathy right from the day they meet. Vishwanathan's first daughter Priya (Sneha) initially hates Bhoopathy and they are at constant loggerheads at each other. When Priya's aunt (Suhasini Mani Ratnam) is going to leave they again fight and the same old revenge story takes place. Soon,however, Priya falls for Bhoopathy. When Bhoopathy comes to know about this, he is reminded of his father's words that he should not make him ask forgiveness to his friend under any circumstances. Although Bhoopathy also likes Priya he controls his emotions and keeps silent. He tries to leave but is caught by Vishwanathan and is forced to come back. Price receives a call from her friend to cone for her wedding. On the insistence of Priya's younger sister, Vishwanathan sends Bhoopathy along with them. There the groom Sriman (Sriman) makes him drunk and he reveals his feelings about Priya. They become friends soon. Then they all go to Black World and a photographer (Pandiarajan) they meet takes a photo of Bhoopathy and Priya holding hands. Bhoopathy keeps avoiding Priya as he is reminded of his promise to his father but cannot forget her. Soon the groom's family arrives and around the same time Mani arrives. Eventually, while the marriage preparations are going strong, the groom's father (Nizhalgal Ravi) finds the photo and the wedding is called off. In the railway station, Bhoopathy tries to convince the groom but in vain. After a few dilemmas by Priya's mother (Meera Krishna) and Priya's aunt,Vishwanathan arrives at the railway station to see Bhoopathy arguing with the groom's family and forces the groom to leave. He finds out the true reasons behind Bhoopathy's backing out and finally unites Bhoopathy with Priya.Acteurs

Gokulan Krishnan (Vijay) is a music loving man who begins the movie with a dream where he sees his dream girl. The only Trademark he remembers from it is a mole which is situated next to her navel(bellybutton). He then becomes determined in looking for his 'dream girl' with the help of his uncle (Mannivannan) and brother in laws. On the other hand, his father arranges him to get married to a village girl Savithri (Devayani) which Gokulan (often referred to as 'Mapillai') objects to, but Savithri loves him. Gokulan later sees his dream girl Swapna (Rambha) at a wedding where he spot the mole on her navel. He then sings to her impressing her but she leaves abruptly. He later sees her at a music class which he teaches and from then on they love each other. Gokulan tries to stop the marriage with Savithri in many failed attempts due to everyone in Savithri's family getting the wrong impression. Swapna then arrives to Savithri's village and is revealed that they are sisters. Neither of them knew that they love the same man.

Chandru (Prashanth) – graduate, works in a Florist shop owned by Manivannan. Chandru visits his friend’s STD booth, where he see many girls waiting for their boy friend’s phone call. The film deals with the social stigma associated with a handicapped girl in a rural milieu. Murali is a potter by profession. He has a sister, who is born dumb. Murali has to struggle a lot as the handicraft industry is a dying industry and a good amount of money is taken away by his father (Manivannan), who is a drunkard and a gambler. But, he tries to hide his sorrows by having fun with his sister and servant (Vadivelu), who is also his trusted friend. He is in love with his neighbour (Meena), a weaver. He wants to get his sister married to a noble man. But many reject her as she is dumb. Finally, one man agrees to marry his sister but on condition that Murali must offer dowry. Murali then sells many things dearer to him to get money for the dowry. But, that money is taken away by his father and the marriage falls through. Yet Vadivelu offers to marry his sister without asking dowry and Murali goes home along with Vadivelu to convey this happy news to his sister. But it was too late as the sister commits suicide. Murali as a penance decides to marry a handicapped girl.
