Toby the Tram Engine is a fictional anthropomorphic tram engine in The Railway Series by the Rev. W. Awdry and his son, Christopher; he also appears in the spin-off television series Thomas & Friends. Toby, a tram engine with cowcatchers and sideplates, carries the North Western Railway running number seven and works on the same Ffarquhar branch line as Thomas the Tank Engine.Toby first appeared in the seventh book in The Railway Series, Toby the Tram Engine in 1952, and appeared in several subsequent books. The second book focused on Toby was the sixth of Christopher Awdry's books, Toby, Trucks and Trouble.

Le gros contrôleur envoie Thomas à la Carrière de la Montagne Bleue. Luke, une locomotive verte, s’y cache grâce à ceux de Belle Vue, par peur d’être chassé des contrôleurs pour sa bêtise. Il l’adopte et apprend le plongeon et la casse du chef d’atelier Victor qui déchargeait dans le port. Il le réunit avec Luke et les contrôleurs pour prouver son innocence malgré Diesel. L’amitié débute.

Sir Topham Hatt, the director of the Island of Sodor Railway, is on holiday leaving Mr. Conductor (Alec Baldwin) in charge. Meanwhile, while talking at Killaban station, Thomas (originally going to be voiced by John Bellis/voiced by Edward Glen) and Gordon (voiced by Neil Crone) encounter an evil and cross diesel locomotive named Diesel 10 (originally going to be voiced by Keith Scott/voiced by Neil Crone), who has a claw on top of him who he names "Pinchy" He states that he has incomplete work on Sodor. Meanwhile, in Shining Time, Mr. Conductor has his own problems as his supply of gold dust, which allows him to magically teleport from place to place, is running low and isn't enough to allow him to travel back from Sodor.
