Anu Mohan is an Indian film actor and director who has worked in Tamil language films. Beginning his career as a director, Anu Mohan has gone on to play secondary comedy roles in films, notably portraying a character in Padayappa (1999).

Badri (Vijay) is the youngest son of a family and a careless guy, always going around girls and enjoying with them. His womanizing habits are a source of heartburn for his father (Kitty). However, his elder brother, Vetri (Riyaz Khan), a kickboxer and his father's favourite son, is very fond of him. Janu (Bhumika Chawla), Badri's neighbour, is in love with him, but it is just one sided as Badri considers her a good friend and a source of money and cars to impress girls (Janu's father is a garage owner). He falls in love with Mamathi (Monal), a rich girl, and poses as a rich guy to impress her. However, she soon finds out Badri has lied to her. Mamathi dumps Badri and insults him in front of his father. Badri's father, tired of his son's antics, disowns him. Later Vetri is attacked by his enemies and is bedridden, unable to take part in the kickboxing championship. Badri decides to fight for his brother and to redeem himself in his father's eyes by fighting in the championship match against Rohit (Bhupinder Singh), who happens to be Mamathi's new boyfriend. He defeats Rohit, redeems himself in front of his father's eyes and finally accepts Janu's love.

Indra Devi (Kushboo), the sister of Ishwarya (Monicka), is very rich and arrogant. Priya (Rambha) is her personal assistant. Kasi (Vijay) is the son of Mani (Mannivannan) and has fallen in love with Monicka in Germany. After hearing the story Indra Devi, Kasi comes to India with all his family. Meanwhile, Indra Devi is challenged by Vedhachalam (Mansur Ali Khan) who has also sent his son (Karan) to study in Germany. Karan also falls in love with Ishwarya. Après avoir terminé ses études, Padayappa revient dans sa famille. Il retrouve son père (Sivaji Ganesan), le très respecté zamindar du village. La riche et arrogante Nilambari tombe éperdument amoureuse de Padayappa, mais il lui préfère sa jolie servante Vasanthira. Se sentant insultée, elle lui voue une haine éternelle et jure sa perte. Dans le même temps, Sivaji Ganesan meurt et, suite à un complot, Padayappa et sa mère sont expulsés de la maison familiale. Ils se voient alloués un pauvre arpent de terre rocailleux comme seul héritage, mais notre héros promet qu’il aura sa revanche. Celle-ci se dessine très vite puisqu’il découvre du granit sur son terrain, et dix-huit ans plus tard le voilà devenu richissime. Mais Nilambari ne l’a pas oublié et compte bien se venger de celui qui l’a rejeté.

Chinnaiya (Sarath Kumar) is a faithful servant in the house of a rich man (Vijayakumar). The rich man is angry with his elder daughter (Sitara), who yearns to mend their relationship. His second daughter, Prabhavathy (Simran Bagga), who arrives from America, falls in love with Chinnaiya but after gaining his trust, accuses him of attempting to rape her. Turns out that she did this to try to unite her sister's family with her father and send Chinnaiya out since it was Chinnaiya's father who killed her mother. So Chinnaiya is kicked out of the house. Meanwhile Muthaiya (also Sarath Kumar), Chinnaiya's father, is released from jail.

Velan (Ramarajan) is the manager of the village market and is a respected man. He loves dearly his only sister Lakshmi (Apoorva) who is the village's school teacher. Sundari (Swathi) and her father (R. Sundarrajan) come to Velan's village. Velan and Sundari fall in love with each other whereas Lakshmi and the rural development officer Selvam (Vaasan) fall in love with each other. In the meantime, Velan and the village chief Rasappan (Manivannan) decide to arrange the marriage between Lakshmi and the wicked Rasappan's son Manikkam (Ponvannan). One day, Selvam breaks the village's rule and he is beaten at the village court. Lakshmi finally reveals the love between them and they get married. Selvam is not a rural development officer but a police officer who urges to arrest Velan. In the past, Velan killed a local rowdy who was in fact Selvam's father. Selvam arrests Velan and Velan is sent in jail. Manikkam becomes the new manager of the village market. Without sufficient evidences, the court releases Velan and he comes back to his village. Now, Velan has to face Selvam and Manikkam. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.
