Arun Kumar Ahuja (January 17, 1917 - July 3, 1998) was an Indian film actor and producer who was active the Bollywood film industry in the 1940s and early 1950s. He was best known for acting in Mehboob Khan's 1940 film Aurat which was a predecessor of the Oscar nominated 1957 remake Mother India.

Biographie

Ahuja was born in pre-partition Gujranwala, Punjab, India in 1917. He married singer and actress Nirmala Devi in 1942 after they were cast opposite each other in the film Savera. He was father to four daughters and two sons. His youngest son is actor Govinda and his other son Kirti Kumar is a former actor and director. He is grandfather of Vinay Anand, Krishna Abhishek, Ragini Khanna and Tina Ahuja.

Kishore (Arun) and Manorama (Mridula) are in love with but unable to get married. Mridula's father is a clerk, who can't afford to pay the dowry demanded by Arun's family. Jayant (Yakub) is a widower, and Mridula is married off to him. His cruel behaviour becomes apparent when he starts torturing Mridula soon after their marriage. Arun's parents get him married to the rich Champa (Leela Pawar) who is in love with someone else. Arun helps her get married to Naresh, the man she loves, by giving her a divorce. Arun watches the torture inflicted on Mridula and the story then continues through tense scenes where eventually Arun kills Jayant and unwittingly Mridula too, following which he's sent to a mental asylum having been declared insane.

Radha (Sardar Akhtar) is an indomitable woman, toiling away to feed her three sons and to pay off Sukhilala, the village's rapacious moneylender. When she learns that she is pregnant again, her husband, Shamu (Arun), runs far away, leaving her to fend for herself against poverty and the lecherous advances of Sukhilala. Later, the two eldest children die, leaving her with only two sons: the straight-laced Ramu (Surendra) and the wild Birju (Yakub). The latter of the two becomes a bandit, who kills Sukhilala and kidnaps his childhood sweetheart. As a result, Radha and Ramu are cast out of the village. Eventually, Radha kills Birju for dishonoring her.

Raja (Arun Kumar Ahuja) an orphan, Mangoo (Sheikh Mukhtar), a pickpocket, and Vithal (Harish), a hansom cab driver are friends. They live in the city where Mala (Anuradha) and her father (Gani) arrive from the village. Mangoo gets into an altercation with Mala’s father and kills him. Banke (Kanhaiyalal) kidnaps Mala and sells her to a wealthy man. Mala manages to escape and stays with Raja who helps her, both falling in love in the process. WWII intervenes and the three friends enlist. The film then revolves around the return from war and the killing of a rapist by one of them. He’s tried in court and convicted for killing the rapist.
