Cayle Vivian Chernin (December 4, 1947 — February 18, 2011) was a Canadian actress, writer, and producer born in Glace Bay, on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. She began her career with a small, but important, role in Donald Shebib's Canadian film Goin' Down the Road (1970). She later produced award-winning documentaries, and acted in film, television and theatre.

Chernin had ovarian cancer which was rapidly spreading but died of a virus she caught in hospital on February 18, 2011 at the age of 63. Diagnosed in June 2010, she filmed a sequel to Goin' Down the Road titled Down the Road Again, in October 2010. The film was theatrically released posthumously in October 2011. Co-star Jayne Eastwood stated that Chernin put off cancer treatment in order to complete the film. Chernin resided in Toronto, Ontario at the time of her death. Contrary to Eastwood's quote, Cayle Chernin was diagnosed in May, rejected chemotherapy, and embarked on alternative treatments during the course of the film.

Forty years after the events of Goin' Down the Road Joey has died in Vancouver and Pete — who left Toronto with Joey after a violent incident — must return to the city to honour Joey's request that his ashes be taken back to Cape Breton Island. Betty-Jo, Joey and Betty's daughter, joins him in the journey, driving cross-Canada in the same 1960 Chevy Impala convertible that Joey and Pete used when they left home in 1970. The return to Cape Breton becomes Joey's final gift to Pete, as he reconnects with Betty, Selina and Annie, and learns about Matt.

Pete and Joey drive their 1960 Chevrolet Impala from their home on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia to Toronto with the hope of meeting up with their relatives in the city who might be able to help them find them jobs. But their relatives hide from what they see as the pair's uncouth behaviour, and the two are set adrift in the city. The men find minimum-wage jobs at $2 an hour for a 40-hour week, still much better pay than anything they could have found back home.
