Biographie
Elvidge debuted in Passing Show of 1914 produced by Sam Shubert at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. She is noted for playing roles as a vamp in silent movies such as The Lure of Woman (1915) and The Poison Pen (1919). She appeared in westerns such as The Price of Pride (1917) and The Law of the Yukon (1920). She acted in seventy motion pictures before the beginning of the sound era. After the conclusion of her movie career in 1924 Elvidge toured America on the Orpheum Circuit, Inc., in vaudeville. She retired from show business in 1925.Elvidge died in 1965 at the Mary Lee Nursing Home in Eatontown, New Jersey. She was 72 years old, the widow of Britton Busch, a stockbroker.

Quincy Adams Sawyer is a young attorney who one day meets a girl in the park. Morgan Kleath, a young newspaper man from San Francisco, arrives in the Yukon to start a paper. His welcome is an insult from Joe Duke, a belligerent native, that results in the latter's first defeat and brews trouble to follow for Kleath. Goldie Meadows, the adopted daughter of Tim Meadows, keeper of the dance hall wins the heart of Kleath, increasing Duke's rage. A robbery instigated by associates of Duke leaves clues that point to Kleath as the guilty man. Claire Meredith, wife of the doctor, and Tiny Tess, a habitue of the dance hall, supply the weak souls to perish in the country's crushing power, and their two love affairs make side issues from the main romance of Kleath and Goldie. As the noose begins to threaten Kleath, his unfaithful wife arrives from 'Frisco to reveal his freedom from blame and breathes her last with the end of her testimony, permitting the union of the lovers.

Mary Baker vit avec sa mère à la campagne et s'ennuie avec son amoureux Johnny Applebloom. Elle rêve de vivre à la ville. Lorsqu'un western doit être tourné dans sa ville du New Jersey, la peur de Mary à la vue des "Indiens" fait rater une prise, mais lui permet de rencontrer l'acteur principal Kenneth Driscoll. Driscoll invite Mary au studio, et son charme lui permet de postuler pour le rôle de l'ingénue, mais elle rate son bout d'essai et, inconsolable, elle se prépare à rentrer chez elle. Driscoll, qui avait quitté son amour de longue date, l'actrice Vivian Carleton, pour une jeune actrice, offre à Mary de l'aider à s'installer en ville. Elle finit par accepter et Driscoll organise une soirée pour célébrer cela. Pendant la soirée, la mère de Mary arrive pour trouver sa fille, ivre pour la première fois de sa vie. Driscoll réussit à cacher ses intentions à la mère de Mary, et suggère que Mary retourne chez elle. Johnny la retrouve à la gare, pendant que Driscoll et Vivian se réconcilient.

Le bookmaker Joe Kelly est en affaires avec le Baron Sartoris et sa maîtresse, Mme D'Aquila, tous les deux hôtes du Juge Beverley. Kelly a des vues sur la fille de Beverley, Diana, qui est aimée de Herbert Brancaster. Pour nuire à son rival, Kelly contrefait un chèque de Brancaster et se sert du Baron pour convaincre le juge Beverley que Brancaster est un vaurien. Harry Anson, un jockey au service des Beverley, découvre que « The Whip », un cheval incontrôlable mais rapide, est devenu docile et pourrait donc gagner la prochaine course à handicap à Saratoga. Brancaster apprend ce secret et parie à 20 contre un sur The Whip. Pendant ce temps, Sartoris, qui a compromis Myrtle, la sœur de Harry, menace de rendre son déshonneur public si Harry ne laisse pas tomber la course. Myrtle refuse, Sartoris cherche à faire en sorte que le van dans lequel est transporté le cheval ait un accident. Brancaster l'apprend et arrive à temps pour sauver The Whip. Kelly et Sartoris sont découverts, Brancaster gagne son pari en même temps que le respect des Beverley.
