Nick Reding (born 31 August 1962 in London, England) is an English actor. During a career of more than two decades, he is probably best known for playing PC Pete Ramsey in The Bill and DI Michael Conner in the BBC crime thriller series Silent Witness. His many TV and film appearances include The Monocled Mutineer, Oscar, Frank Stubbs Promotes, Sword of Honour, A Touch of Frost, Boon, Captive, Mister Johnson, The House of Eliott, Police 2020, Croupier, Judge John Deed, The Constant Gardener, Blood Diamond and Soul Boy. On stage he played Joseph Porter Pitt in Tony Kushner's Angels in America at the Royal National Theatre, as well as leading roles at the Royal Court. He also appeared in Lovejoy.

Kenya, 2003: A radio DJ announces that the Kenyan government is offering free primary school education to all. Maruge (Oliver Litondo), an 84-year-old villager, hears this and decides he wants to educate himself. Arriving at his local school, with a newspaper clipping about this change in policy, he meets Jane (Naomie Harris), the school’s principal, and expresses his desire to learn. Her colleague Alfred (Alfred Munyua), in an effort to get rid of him, tells him all pupils need two exercise books and a pencil.

Sierra Leone, 1999. Le pays est déchiré par une guerre civile entre les rebelles du Revolutionary United Front (RUF) et le gouvernement d'Ahmad Tejan Kabbah pour le contrôle des lucratives mines diamantifères. Solomon Vandy, pêcheur mendé, voit son village attaqué. Sa famille réussit à s'enfuir, mais il est capturé par le RUF qui l'envoie dans la mine de Kono, où il découvre un « diamant de sang » d'une taille exceptionnelle, rarissime pierre rosée, qu'il réussira à enterrer grâce à l'assaut du camp par l'armée. Libéré, il rencontre Danny Archer, ancien militaire blanc né en Rhodésie (actuel Zimbabwe), devenu mercenaire puis trafiquant. Archer propose à Solomon de retrouver sa famille en échange du partage de la vente du diamant.

Cutting back and forth from fiction to documentary, from the original stage play to the actual locations, it takes us on two parallel journeys: we watch the story, but we are also watching it through the eyes of the ghetto audience.
