Syed Musa Raza, (December 25, 1925 – June 11, 1982) better known as Santosh Kumar (Punjabi, Urdu: سنتوش کمار‎), was a famous Pakistani film actor of 1950s and 1960s era. He belonged to a well educated Urdu speaking family from Uttar Pradesh, India. He was married to Sabiha Khanum. His brother Darpan was also a renowned film actor during that period. His other brother S. Suleiman was a renowned film director.

Santosh Kumar was Pakistan's super- star film hero along with Sudhir but he was the first ever top romantic hero. His first film was Ahensa in 1947 in India. In Pakistan, his first film was Beli in 1950 and in the same year he became film hero of the first ever Pakistani silver jubilee Urdu film Do aansoo.

Biographie

Santosh Kumar’s real name was Syed Musa Raza. He was born in 1925 in Lahore, British India. However, he hailed from a noble Shia Muslim family of Uttar Pradesh, India. He graduated from Osmania University, Hyderabad, where he passed the I.Sc. (pre-graduate course) examination with high marks. Santosh Kumar was often offered roles in government, but he declined in favour of people he felt were better suited for such positions.

Owing to his education and awareness, Santosh Kumar was always designated to lead the entourage to represent Pakistan in meetings held abroad, and because of this became known as the foreign minister of the Pakistan Film Industry. This was revealed by him in one of his interviews broadcast by the Radio Pakistan in the mid sixties.

Initially, he was married to Jameela Begum, but subsequently married actress Sabiha Khanum. The first Nigar Award for best actor in the history of Pakistan was presented to him in film Waada. Shaam Dhalay is the only movie he produced, directed and played the lead role. He died on June 11, 1982, months short of his first son Syed Ahsan Raza's wedding.

The film is a tragedy based on a tawaif (courtesan) 'Anjuman' played by Rani, who is a "tawaiif" who flirts with the emotions of a wealthy Santosh Kumar and later falls in love with his younger brother played by Waheed Murad. In order to save his older brother's marriage Waheed's character decides to frequent Anjuman's "kotha" in an "exchange" demanded by Anjuman, although being in love with another girl (played by Deeba). Sabiha plays the role of wife of the older brother's character in the film, and eventually implores Anjuman to forsake her own love so that Waheed's Character can live happily. At the end, Anjuman (Rani) has to face a fate worse than death, where she is invited to sing at the wedding of her Love. Lovelorn and disappointed Anjuman offers a woeful song, as she has swallowed poison, and dies at the feet of her love.

Sunil (Dharmendra) lives with his mother and sister a middle-class life in Delhi. He works for Chopra & Co., Chartered Accountants. He comes across a beautiful woman posing for a painting, and thinks she is poor and needy, and gives her a tip. The woman's name is Anita, and both are attracted to each other. Sunil and Anita intend to marry, and Sunil even introduces Anita to his mother. One day when attending a party, Sunil is shocked to learn that Anita is a multi-millionaire. Stunned at this deception, he swears he will have nothing to do with her. When Anita attempts to sooth things over, Sunil does cool down. It is then he finds out that Anita's dad, who is serving time, had killed his father, and that Anita mother is still alive, after making her living as a former prostitute.
