T. Kanakam (c. 1927 – 21 July 2015) was an Indian Telugu drama and film actress and singer between the 1940s and 1960s. She acted in some of the best known and most popular hit films of that period.

Biographie

Kanakam was born in Kharagpur in 1927 and later shifted to Vijayawada. She started singing folk songs in All India Radio since childhood. She became famous for playing Nayakuralu Nagamma in Palnati Yudham and Sri Krishna in Kurukshetram dramas. She also played as Srirama, Chintamani and many more and toured the entire state playing the dramas. She is contemporary to Peesapati Narasimha Murty, Shanmukhi Anjaneya Raju, Kalyanam Raghuramaiah, Relangi Venkataramaiah, Madhavapeddi Satyam and others.

She sang some songs in the films including Cheyi Cheyi Kalupukora in Raksharekha and Bhale Doralaku in Shavukaru.

She received Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao Theatre Art Award for 2004 from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Kanakam died in 2015, aged 88.

Changayya (Subba Rao) is a wealthy Sowkar (businessman) whose son Satyam (N.T. Rama Rao) is studying in the city. His neighbour is Ramayya (Srivatsa). Changayya is affectionate towards his daughter Subbulu (Janaki) and wants to make her his daughter-in-law. Satyam also likes this idea. But due to some conflict in the village courtesy Bangarayya, Ramayya provides the police witness against Changayya citing his hand present in the messy affair. The two families are thereafter estranged. They start off with petty fights, getting worse every day culminating with Satyam and Ramayya's son Narayana (Sivaram) ending up in jail after being framed. The local goonda Sunnapu Rangadu (S.V. Ranga Rao) plans to rob Changayya's place, but his plans are spoiled by Subbulu and Ramayya. Both the families end their differences, and become friendly once again. At the end, Satyam and Subbulu marry and live happily.

King of Vidarbha becomes attracted to Mohini (Anjali Devi). He brings her to his kingdom as a second wife. She is a demon. She eats elephants and horses in the fort at night leaving bones. According to her plan, she manages to shift the blame onto the Queen. The king punishes the pregnant queen and sends her to the forest. She gives birth to a son (Akkineni). He grows up in Koya Gudem and learns all fighting skills. With the help of Keelu Gurram (Magic horse) which can fly in the sky, he wins the king's attention. He was given the Sainyadhikari (Chief of Army) position due to his bravey. He saves a damsel in distress (Lakshmirajyam). Knowing his intentions, Mohini sends him on an impossible mission to bring her a medicinal herb for her headache. He faces many adventures in pursuit of his goal. He learns that Mohini is in an insect. He reaches the kingdom, while his mother is sentenced to death by hanging. He kills Mohini and saves his mother and restores her dignity.
