Prabhat Film Company popularly known as Prabhat Films was an Indian film production company and film studios founded in 1929 by the noted film director V.Shantaram and his friends.

It was formed in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India in 1929, towards the end of silent films' era, by the noted film director V. Shantaram, along with V.G. Damle, K.R. Dhaiber, S. Fatelal and S.B. Kulkarni. The company moved to Pune in 1933, where it established its own studio and produced a total of 45 films in both Marathi and Hindi over 27 years, including are Kunku (Duniya Na Mane in Hindi), Swarajyacha Toran also called Udaykal, based on Shivaji’s life, Dharmatma on life of saint Eknath, Sant Tukaram, based on the saint-poet and social reformer, Shejari also called Padosi, on communal harmony, Manoos (aka Aadmi) about alcoholism and Amar Jyoti about woman’s emancipation. While several companies such as, Imperial Film Company, Krishna Cinetone, East India Film Company, Madan Theatre, Ranjit, Wadia Movietone were very active during the advent of Talkie films in India, Prabhat, along with New Theatres of Kolkata, stood out for their excellence and social awareness.

Today, the Film and Television Institute of India Pune, at Law College road, is situated in its former premises, and houses the 'Prabhat Museum' which displays artefacts, original contracts and partnership deeds of Prabhat Film Company, along with costumes, properties, equipment, posters and stills.

The University of Chicago Library has a collection of 27 films produced by the Prabhat Film Company between 1932 and 1949

Sheela Rani lives with her blind father and works as a radio singer. Master Amar is a Physical Instructor who falls in love with Sheela when he hears her on the radio. He pursues her and they get married. Mohan, a freedom fighter takes shelter with them when he is on the run from the police. Soon Amar starts suspecting his wife of having an affair with Mohan. He starts ill-treating his pregnant wife and throws her out of the house. The wife lives with her father where a child is born to her. Amar then proceeds to abduct the child and thinks of getting the Rs. 5000 prize that the police have placed on ohan. Mohan is arrested and Amar repents his deeds. He realises his mistake and brings his wife home.

Jñāneśvar was the second of the four children of Vitthal Govind Kulkarni and Rukmini, a pious couple from Apegaon near Paithan on the banks of the river Godavari. Vitthal had studied Vedas and set out on pilgrimages at a young age. In Alandi, about 30 km from Pune, Sidhopant, a local Yajurveda Brahmin, was very much impressed with him and Vitthal married his daughter Rukmini.

Shahu Modak plays the role of an honest policeman, Ganpat, who on his beat round meets a prostitute, Maina (Shanta Hublikar). He saves her when there is a police raid on the sex-workers. Over their several meetings he falls in love with her. He attempts Maina's rehabilitation by getting her out of that atmosphere by marrying her. In this endeavour he takes her to meet his mother to get her approval. The social disapproval brings misery. Modak resorts to drinks and descends into alcoholism. Maina is driven by guilt and is unable to bear the jeers and snide remarks. She finally kills her evil uncle and refuses Ganpat's help when arrested.

Considered a classic Indian film, Amrut Manthan depicts Chandika cult followers who meet in a dungeon. King Krantivarma (Varde) had banned human and animal sacrifices from what he perceived as increasingly fanatical festivals dedicated to the goddess. As a reaction to this, the cult's high priest (Chandra Mohan) orders the unfortunate Vishwagupta (Kelkar) to kill the king. He obeys, but is then betrayed by the priest and caught. His son Madhavgupta (Mane) and his daughter Sumitra (Apte) join forces with the princess (Nalini Tarkhad), and the people finally overthrow the priest.

The story is about the twelfth of the thirteen years of the Pandavas exile. Draupadi in her identity as Sairandhari (female servant) is acting as the maid-in-waiting to Queen Sudeshna. They are in King Virata's palace in Matsya. Kichaka, King Virata's brother-in-law and Sudeshna's brother is an arrogant man who believes that King Virat rules his kingdom because of him. He sees Sairandhari and orders his sister to send Sairandhari to his palace. When she reaches Keechak's palace Bhima who is disguised as the palace cook, arrives to save her and slays Kichaka.

Senapati Naagraya(Baburao Pendharkar) rebels against the Raja of Vaijayanti(Shankarrao Bhosale), overthrows his army and kills him, but is unable to stop Rani Veermati(Kamaladevi), who escapes along with her infant son, Sudhirchandra(Master Vinayak). For 19 years she remains in hiding, branding her arm with a burning iron every year. When her son is 20, she asks him to promise to take back Vaijayanti or else she will brand her arm for the 20th time. He promises to punish the tyrant and take charge of this region in 10 days, and accordingly travels there in the company of his friend, Bhairav(Budasaheb). Once there, they prepare to meet with the Minister(Nimbalkar ), who is secretly rebelling against Naagraya. What Sudhirchandra does not know is that Naagraya has decided to wed the Minister's nubile daughter(Leela Pendharkar ), and that she will be involved in snaring him in a deceptive plot to have him arrested, tortured and killed.
