This is the first film where, the later superstar of Malayalam film, Mammootty, even though the antagonist, plays a notable and full-length role.
This is also a film noted for starring the shortest actor (Raghu) as the protagonist and in a full-length character. But the Guinness record for this entry has been awarded to Ajaykumar (Pakru) for his supporting role in the 2005 film Athbhutha Dweepu.

Synopsis
The protagonist, working as a clown in a circus in the town, comes to visit his village. He is looking for a bride. The heroine, a tall lady, gets charmed by the wealthiness (compared to the other citizens of the village) of the protagonist even though he is a dwarf. She assents to marriage. Vasanthi has to mother three generations of her family in addition to her daytime job. She finds liberation by escaping into madness and a mental asylum. Alice is married to a ruthless businessman and seeks solace in affairs. When she is refused a divorce, she commits suicide. When both the middleclass women prefer self-destruction as their way to liberation, the third, a brutally exploited housemaid, Ammini ends up in a home for women, but latter helps all the inmates of this home to break out of the suffocating atmosphere of the home to freedom.

Kaimal and Susheela are leading a troubled married life. The latter is unsatisfied with the ignorance from her husband. Susheela, a mother of two children, indulges in a physical relation with a car mechanic named Giri. On an unfortunate day, she elopes with Giri to start a new life. After the incident, Kaimal is harassed by many of his friends and colleagues. Balan, a friend of Kaimal, helps him to get a relief. Balan tries to bring back Susheela, who was still having an unsatisfied life with Giri, to Kaimal's life. He arranges a meeting between Susheela and Kaimal in a beach.
