Valmiki was a 1946 Tamil-language film starring C. Honnappa Bhagavathar, U. R. Jeevarathinam, N. C. Vasanthakokilam, T. R. Rajakumari and T. S. Balaiah. It was directed by Sundar Rao Nadkarni.

Synopsis

The film was based on the story of the Hindu sage Valmiki (played by Honnappa Bhagavathar) who starts as a bandit and eventually undergoes spiritual transformation into a religious mendicant. Valmiki falls in love with a princess (played by Jeevarathnam) who is kidnapped by the villain (played by T. S. Balaiah).

Padma), and son, Selvam (Sivaji Ganesan). Thangam’s husband dies when she is expecting her baby. Selvam falls in love with a rich girl Malathi (Padmini), while a playboy (T. S. Balaiah) does his best to separate them. When Thangam’s child is born, ugly rumours are spread by Lakshmi that the father of the child is Selvam and the two had an incestuous relationship. Malathi believes the rumours and starts tormenting Thangam. How the young widow surmounts the problems forms the rest of the story.

A king is imprisoned by his ambitious brother (T.S.Balaiah),who creates the impression that the king had died during an animal hunt. The crown prince (played by MGR) was on a sea journey and returns to attend the king's fake funeral. During the funeral, the crown prince comes to know the truth, via a secret message conveyed to him by the daughter (B.S.Saroja,in a bearded messenger disguise) of the palace physician. As expected, she falls in love with the prince. The sibling of king also plots to kill the prince by poisoning him with a drug, concocted by the palace physician. The drug was supposed to make the crown prince mad, who acts like a madman poisoned by the drug to fool everyone. Prince is also helped by a woman drama troupe leader (T.R.Rajakumari), who also had affection to the crown prince. Eventually, she sacrifices her life, leaving the prince to unite with the daughter of palace physician. The plotting villains were avenged by the prince and his comedian side kick (Chandrababu).

Around 1580 AD during the reign of Emperor Akbar, young Meera (Radha Viswanathan), influenced by the story of Andal and Krishna, is deeply in love with Krishna, so much so that she considers Krishna to be her husband after she garlands him on an auspicious day as advised by her mother. As Meera grows into a young woman (M. S. Subbulakshmi), her devotion to Krishna grows.

She keeps the Japanese army commander and the principal antagonist of the movie General Bakjina under her surveillance. However, things turn awry when three Indian pilots in the British Indian Air Force are captured and taken prisoner and one of them (played by T. S. Balaiah) is eventually killed. The story of the escape of the other two pilots forms the plot of the movie. The character of the Japanese general Bakjina is a spoof of Adolf Hitler.

Jagathalaprathapan was based on the fantasy story of a prince who is to be punished from his kingdom for expressing his desire for four celestial maidens, Indrani, Nagakumari, Agnikumari and Varunakumari. The prince, however, escapes punishment and roams in disguise in the company of a friend when he meets a damsel who is Indirakumari in disguise. He marries her and settles down in a kingdom whose king falls in love with his wife and sends the prince away to Nagaloka in order to covet her. The prince, however, succeeds in finding Nagakumari in Nagaloka, Agnikumari in Agniloka and Varunakumari in Varunaloka and succeeds in winning them as wives.

Au tournant du XX siècle au Bengale, Devdas (K.L. Saigal) est un jeune homme insouciant d'une vingtaine d'années qui fréquente Parvati (Jamuna), une jeune fille de son village qu'il connait depuis qu'ils ont fréquenté ensemble les bancs de l'école. Elle est amoureuse de lui et voudrait bien l'épouser, mais lui laisse planer le doute. Un jour, le père de Devdas, un riche propriétaire terrien, décide de l'envoyer à Calcutta poursuivre ses études. Il essaye de résister mais la pression familiale est trop forte et, à contre-cœur, il doit quitter son village et Parvati. À Calcutta chez son oncle, il fait la connaissance de Chunilal (A.H. Shore), un agent d'assurance filou et bon-vivant qui tente de transformer le jeune villageois timide en citadin à la mode.
