It is Venezuela's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film of the 80th Academy Awards.
Synopsis
Pendant la rébellion armée de gauche, dans les années 60, une jeune "guérilla" doit accoucher clandestinement. A sa surprise, comme sa fille est la première à naître "Le jour des mères", leur photo est dans les journaux. A partir de là, elles doivent fuir. Déguisement, cachettes et faux noms font partie du quotidien de la Fille, narratrice de cette histoire. En compagnie de son cousin Teo, ils réinventent les aventures de leurs parents guérilléros, construisant un fantastique labyrinthe de super-héros et des stratégies autour de la subversion armée, sans savoir où commence la réalité ou la folie.Acteurs

The film begins in a meeting on August 2002 where a social activist, Simon Petrov, is reading the sentence dictated by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights ordering the Venezuelan state to compensate to the relatives of the victims of the 27 February 1989 riots. The people at that meeting began to tell and remember the tragic moments of that event.

Samir Sahni is a farmer living with his mom, dad, wife, Rama, a young daughter, and his younger brother, Veer. Samir gets an offer to work in the U.K., and departs accordingly. He would like to settle there, and after doing so, would like his family to also join him. The years go by, and Samir keeps in touch with his family regularly. Then the Sahni family stop receiving any letters from him, and are anxious to know what has happened to him. Veer is asked to travel to U.K. to find out, and he does so. What he finds are tens of thousands of East Indians on fake passports, working for less than minimum wages, poor unhealthy conditions, fear of being deported, and paying half of their earnings to fellow East Indians who had got them here through the underground. Veer finds no sign of his brother, and sets out to investigate, only to find deceit, murder, and his very own life in danger.

Tony, a village orphan marries his sweetheart but loses her in childbirth. He showers all his love and devotion on his child Mary. Albert (Perry King) is the chauffeur and lover for a wealthy pianist, Sills (Peter Donat). When Sills finds another chauffeur/lover, Albert is forced onto the streets of Los Angeles. Stella (Meg Foster) is a real estate agent who knows Sills and Albert as repeated rental clients. She finds Albert squatting in one of her properties and she offers Albert to spend the night at her house on the couch. The next day, she goes to work, expecting Albert to move out, but instead Albert cleans her cluttered house and cooks a fantastic dinner. Without verbally acknowledging it, they agree that Albert can stay longer and perform domestic duties while Stella continues working. Albert also gets a part-time job as a valet.
