Synopsis
Purushottam Agarwal shifts to London for better standard of living. He wants his grand daughter Nikki to respect Indian culture and marry an Indian man. Initially, Nikki rejects because she is already in love with Rohit. But, pressurized by her grandfather's stubborn attitude, she plans to move to India. In India, she meets Rommie a tourist guide. Here, she makes a plan to fool her grandfather by faking her marriage to Rommie. Then she plans to allow Rommie to act as a villainous person in front of Purushottam so that he changes his views about Indian grooms. She presents Rommie as a wealthy man in front of Purushottam. Nikki and Rommie, both initially hate each other. As per the plan, Rommie makes every attempt to act negative but destiny does not seem to support him. Every attempt takes him closer to Purushottam's heart.Acteurs

Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Sunil (Shashi Kapoor) are petty burglars. They don't go well with each other and are sworn enemies. A wealthy, but evil man named Zafar Khan (Kader Khan), has fallen in love with a girl named Salma (Waheeda Rahman) and wants to marry her, but she and her father do not let him. Zafar is arrested for various crimes and is imprisoned for 10 years, but when he is discharged, he sees that Salma is married to a good man named Aslam Khan (Satyendra Kapoor). Zafar Khan, wants to convince Salma to marry him but Salma refuses. Zafar murders Salma's father and plots his revenge by flooding the region in which Salma lives, nearly killing Aslam and injuring Salma, causing her to lose her memory. During this catastrophe, Salma is also separated from her young son, Iqbal (Amitabh Bachchan). Zafar abducts Salma and tells the world she is his wife. He also adopts an infant from an orphanage in Kanpur, a boy named Sunny (Rishi Kapoor), for Salma to raise on the advice of a psychiatrist. Meanwhile, Iqbal is reunited with his uncle, who has lost his wife and son in the flood. The uncle will raise Iqbal as his own, as they have no more family.

Dharam Chand (Amitabh Bachchan), an ameniable village farmer is thrilled when his wife, Radha (Waheeda Rehman) gives birth to a baby boy, whom they decide to name Raju. Dharma heroically saves the lives of Ajit (Anwar Hussain), and Sujit (Sujit Kumar) and Suresh when they are being attacked by a tiger and they graciously offer him a job in Bombay (now Mumbai) whenever he decides to visit. When the village experiences economic crisis and drought, the family migrate to Bombay, where Ajit makes Dharma the manager of his warehouse in the city. Dharma succeeds in the job until he is arrested by the police. His cries of innocence are ignored by the authorities and he is sentenced to 18 months in jail plus an additional six months for contempt of court. When he eventually returns home, everything has changed. His wife and Raju are near destitution. Laxmi (Heena Kausar) has been raped by Sujit and has killed herself. Dharma decides to avenge her death and kills all the three of them. He then joins forces with another gang where he is rewarded for his loyalty and soon makes his way to the very top. He sends Raju for further education to Britain and moves into a palatial home. Years later, Raju (also Amitabh Bachchan) returns home and would like to marry Geeta Verma (Neetu Singh) whom he met in Britain but is unable to meet his father's approval and comes into conflict. Unknown to Dharma, Ajit is still alive and has returned and it is time to avenge the past by trying to murder Dharma at any price.

A woman Neha (Ramya Krishnan) witnesses the murder of a friend of her named Madhu (Divya Dutta) by a notorious smuggler Zorawar (Paresh Rawal) but she skips while being chased by Zorawar's goons and ends up in the secure custody of police inspector Arjun Singh (Amitabh Bachchan), a friend of police inspector Pyare Mohan (Govinda). In reality, Neha, unaware of their identities, believes Arjun to be "Pyare", about whom she was agreeably apprised of by Madhu, and so, Arjun has to impersonate Pyare, giving rise to hilarious situations. Concurrently, Pyare flirts with Seema (Raveena Tandon) - Arjun's sister. Everything could have been passable for the two cops if two lookalikes of the cops, by the nicknames "Bade Miyan" (Amitabh Bachchan) and "Chote Miyan" (Govinda) had not been a cause of concern for them because of the misdeeds they commit leading to Arjun and Pyare being accused as the miscreants everytime. With background scores of the songs (specially "Bade Miyan Toh Bade Miyan") that stir the listeners, the movie advances through scenes of thrill and amusement.
