Kangal (Tamil: கண்கள்) (English: Eyes) is a 1953 Indian Tamil film, directed by Krishnan-Panju. The film stars Sivaji Ganesan, Pandaribai, S. V. Sahasranamam and J. P. Chandrababu in lead roles. The film had musical score by S. V. Venkatraman.

Their younger sister Kalyani was raised in their home town by their father Manickampillai. In 1942, during World War II, her marriage is arranged with a writer named Thangappan, and the brothers plan to visit Madurai to attend the wedding. Due to war conditions and bombardment of Burmese ports by Japan, the shipping company offers only one ticket and Gunasekaran, the youngest brother, takes it and leaves for Tamil Nadu. The ship fails to reach on time due to the dangers of the war, and Kalyani's marriage takes place without any of her brothers present.
The film has a novel beginning. Sivaji sits in a park with his friends, holding a copy of the novel Paavai Vilakku in his hands, Sivaji talks about its greatness to his friends, and then begins to read it.
The film tells the story of Thenpandiko, the king of Inbapuri. Ellaipuram is a part of the kingdom and the king appoints his brother, Mukhari, to rule it. Mukhari has a minister, Imaya, who has evil designs. Mukhari falls a prey to his evil plans, and besides taking over Ellaipuram, he plans to usurp Inbapuri from his brother.
Goddess Valli had her heart and soul dedicated to Lord Subramanya and would always pray with fervent devotion and love, to be with Him. The Lord was moved by the highest form of love expressed by the mountain princess, and so He planned to appease Her in person by creating the perfect situation after an enactment of His lila.
