Kurukshetra is a 1945 Hindi film directed by Rameshwar Sharma. Produced Under the banner of Unity Pictures it starred K. L. Saigal, Radharani, Nawab, Shanti, Biman Bannerji and Shamli and had music composed by Ganpatrao.

The film was cited as an offbeat film of K. L. Saigal, directed by a relatively unknown director; it's stated to be a "forerunner" to later Art Cinema.

At the annual college event the main singer goes missing. To help matters, Kusum Kumari (Kanan Devi) plays a record. The lyrics of the song are by a young poet (K. L. Saigal) living in a village. The Principal of the college, impressed by the poet’s work brings him to the city. The poet takes to training Kusum to sing for the next event and falls in love with her. One of the patrons (Nawab) is a wealthy businessman. He is enthralled by Kusum and after negotiations with her father, gets married to her in spite of the poet trying to intercede. The poet disappears but after some time the husband listens to Kusum and helps in furthering the poet’s career. The gesture is misunderstood by the poet who thinks that the help was given to him because of Kusum’s love for him. Finally Kusum has to let him know that for her the poet was a Guru she respected.

Tansen becomes orphan at a very young age and lives with his paternal uncle. He goes to a music teacher to learn music and returns to his native village after many years of training. In the village the shepherdess Tani is considered a gifted singer. Tansen falls in love with the shepherdess Tani. Tani rescues an elephant and Tansen tames it by his singing. This captures the attention of Raja Ramchandra. He becomes Tansen's friend. At the same time in Agra, the Mughal emperor Akbar regrets why there is no musician in his navratnas. Akbar sends a few of his workers to the countryside to find out the best musician. While his workers are searching the best musician they come across Tansen, who while singing for Tani brings a leafless tree to bloom. The workers are overwhelmed at this and ask Tansen to go to the court of Akbar along with them. Tansen refuses at first by saying that he will sing for no one other than her sweetheart Tani. After repeated persuasions he finally agrees to go to Agra where he enthralls Akbar by his singing. Akbar appoints him as one of his navratnas. The other musicians in the royal court see this move as a threat to their reputation and status in the court.

Two friends, Pancham (K. L. Saigal) and Rekhab (Arun) have just arrived in the city. They are looking for jobs and accommodation. Pancham interested in music, finds a job in a music and dance school to teach singing. There he meets Indu, who teaches dancing to the students. She also happens to be his upstairs neighbour where he has rented a room. Indu lives there with her sister Bindu (Kamala Chatterjee). Rekhab manages to rent a room below a wrestler's (Lala Yakub) accommodation. The two friends fall in love with the two sisters. The wrestler helps Rekhab to develop his physique in order to impress his sweetheart. Through comic situations that follow, the film ends happily.

Shyama (Suraiya) gets a job as a servant so she can pay for her younger sister, Kiran's (Geeta Bali) education in the city. Kiran, though, is in love with a rogue, Ajit (Pran). Ajit makes Kiran splurge all the money Shyama sends her on them. Meanwhile, Shyama meets and falls in love with Shyam (Rehman), the son of the family she works for and who is a doctor who wants to treat the poor. With both of being ill-treated by the woman of the house, who is Shyam's step mother, they decide to elope. However, Kiran comes to her, abandoned and impregnated. Shyama goes along with her without informing Shyam in order to find Ajit. They find Ajit but he escapes from them. The two sisters then relocate to another town. Kiran has the child, Shyama works in another house, where in order to get Kiran settled with the young man of the house and to prove her to be without blemish, she takes it upon herself to claim to be the mother of the child. This causes further complications with Shyam, who has managed to trace her out and now believes that she has been unfaithful to him. Wallowing in grief, he falls ill. Finally, with the help of a kindly army colonel, also Ajit's uncle (Ulhas), all ends well that well with a repentant Ajit marrying Kiran and Shyama reunited with Shyam.
