Pratighatana (Telugu: ప్రతిఘటన) is a 1985 Telugu film about a woman's fight against corruption and criminalization of politics in India. Vijayshanti acted the leading role while Chandra Mohan acted as her husband. This film was directed by a noted Telugu director T. Krishna. The film was premiered at International Film Festival of India and has garnered the Filmfare Best Film Award (Telugu). Later it was remade in Malayalam as Pakarathinu Pakaram.

Synopsis

Vijayshanti was the wife of a lawyer Chandra Mohan. The city life was always disrupted by a group of street criminals supported by the ruling party. These criminals humuliate Vijayshanti in front of a large crowd by showing her nude on the street when she refuses to take back her complaint against the criminal "khali" for murdering a police officer in public. Her husband remains helpless despite being a lawyer fearing of the consequences that they may face in future if they went to court for justice. Meanwhile, the leader of the criminals, the villain, gets elected to the legislative assembly and arranges an open meeting to celebrate his election. Vijayshanti with frustration kills the villain in that open meeting.

The film opens in a hospital at Mumbai, where Bose (Nandamuri Balakrishna) coming back to life after staying in a coma for eighteen months. As soon as he recovers, Bose is identified as Godse by everyone around him and he is surprised when an elderly couple, (Chandra Mohan & Jaya Sudha), claim to be his parents. Bose keeps convincing all of them that he is not Godse and has his own story. Soon, he comes to Hyderabad in search of his true identity and he bumps into Mahalakshmi (Trisha), who he believes is his lover. When she tells him that it's a case of mistaken identity, Godse is taken aback and he meets a similar fate when he meets his parents (Chalapathi Rao & Geetha) as well. Suddenly a girl Sarayu (Radhika Apte) arrives as Godse's wife a tries him to remember their marriage life, which makes a lot of confusion. Later Godse finds out that it was all a ruse set up by the Bharadwaja (Prakash Raj) and his real name is Bose. The rest of this movie deals with why the CM wanted Bose alive and why did he set up him with a new identity? Bose, a sincere and powerful CBI Officer on a mission to crack the suspicious death of former Chief Minister of State Achyuta Ramayya (Vijay Kumar). Bose learns that influential person, sitting CM Bharadwaj is behind the death of former CM and tries to prove him of guilty. Which forms the rest are the obstacles created by Bharadwaj and how Bose overcome them.

Chinnarayudu (Venkatesh) the arbitrator and most respected person in a village and sees through that all the people lives happily. Venkata Ramana (Daggubati Venkatesh) a.k.a Venky is a ventriloquist. An astrologer (M. S. Narayana) predicts that if he does not get married in one year, he will be a single man forever. He goes to Paris to show his talent to the company of Paris Prasad (Brahmanandam). Paris Prasad fools everyone and he was given a loan from a bank. But he has not repaid the loan to the bank. Venky befriends Sheikh Raj (Ali). Venky also falls in love with Pooja (Trisha Krishnan), the niece of Paris Prasad. Pooja has no feelings for Venky, but Paris Prasad tells Venky that Pooja too loves him and fools him. Slowly Pooja and Venky become friends. Pooja goes back to India and finds that her marriage has been arranged with Bhadrappa (Subbaraju), the son of her uncle, Changala Rayudu (Mukesh Rishi). Venky asks Paris Prasad for help. Prasad comes with Venky to save Pooja by telling him that Pooja loves him and wants to break the marriage. But Pooja loves an NRI named Rahul. There Venky introduces himself to everyone as Pranit and makes fools of them by giving the partnership of his factory's benefit. One day when Venky with Prasad and Pooja runs away, Bhaddrapa's uncle (Jaya Prakash Reddy) comes to know everything. He tells everyone this. Then Venky goes to his village along with Prasad, Rahul and Pooja. He introduces his family, his uncles, Narayana (Chandra Mohan) and Malesh Yadav (Kota Srinivasa Rao). After that Bhaddrapa's grandfather hatches a plan in which Venky will come with Pooja and they will kill him. But Venky ends up coming with his full family, so they could not kill him. But after coming here, Venky comes to know that Pooja loves Rahul. When Pooja's uncle attacks them, Venky saves everybody. Pooja realizes she loves Venky. Paris Prasad also realizes his mistake and gets Venky and Pooja married. After the marriage, Prasad asks Venky to give him money with which he can repay the bank loan. But Venky laughs after hearing this.

The movie starts with a fight in which Durga Prasad bashes up police for occupying the house of a poor woman. Dhanunjaya Rao (Raghuvaran) comes to know the heroism of Durga Prasad and tells him his flashback. Dhanunjaya Rao and Chandra Sekhar (Charan Raj) are the best friends. They have a kid each. Dhanunjaya Rao is a business magnate and Chandra Sekhar is a police, officer. Chandra Sekhar arrests a dreaded goon and the goon's supporters kidnap the son of Dhanunjaya Rao and hold the kid as hostage and want to exchange the kid for the release of goon. If Chandra Sekhar does not release goon, he would be getting a promotion and prize money worth 5 lakhs from the Government. At the last spurring moment, Chandra Sekhar becomes selfish which results in the death of the son of Dhanunjaya Rao. Due to this incident Chandra Sekhar becomes an enemy of Dhanunjaya Rao. The wife of Dhanunjaya Rao gets paralyzed. Dhanunjaya Rao's aim is to kill the son of Chandra Sekhar.
