The film, directed by T. R. Raghunath, had musical score by G. Ramanathan and was released on 2 September 1960. The movie was miserably flopped at box office and ran for 70 days.
Synopsis
Swaroop Singh (O. A. K. Thevar) won the respect and loyalty of the people of Senji during his rule where Hindus and Muslims lived in peace and prosperity. A son was born to Swaroop Singh and his wife Rambai (Rushyendramani), whom they named Tej Singh pronounced as Desingu (MGR) in Tamil. Swaroop Singh has a secret wife called Jaan Bibi (Lakshmiprabha), and they have a son called Dawood Khan (MGR) who was a little older than Desingu. Fearing that Dawood might pose a threat to the succession of the throne in years to come, on the advice of his commander and close confidant Yusuf Khan (T. K. Ramachandran), Swaroop Singh persuades Jaan Bibi to leave Senji, taking little Dawood with her. Desingu who has integrity and courage grows up with his childhood friend, another brave young man called Mohammed Khan (S. S. Rajendran), and two are always inseparable.Acteurs

In the opening sequence, jailed former labor leader Nataraj (M. G. Ramachandran) is telling his cellmates about the suffering his family endured as a result of uncle Ponnambalam (K. Sarangapani) betraying his fellow Indians in order to help the British. Nataraj tells of how Ponnambalam murdered his father, swindled his mother of her meager savings and forced her sister Leela (P. K. Saraswathi) into marriage. Nataraj hunts down and kills his uncle, which lands him in jail to tell his story.

Marziana (P. Bhanumathi) is a dancer in Baghdad. The tyrant Sher Khan, commander of the notorious king Amir Kasim Khan (M. G. Chakrapani), tries to take her by force to his palace. She is rescued by Ali Baba (M. G. Ramachandran), who fights with Sher Khan and vanquishes him. Marziana and her sidekick Dowlat (K. Sarangkapani) find refuge in Ali Baba’s house. Alibaba is an impoverished woodcutter and lives with his sister Ayisha (P. Susheela) and servant Bulbul (M. N. Rajam). Marziana learns that they are the siblings of Kasim, who had driven them out at the instigation of his cruel wife Salima (Vidyavati). Marziana and Ali Baba later fall in love.

Muthaiyan (MGR) is the brave son of Ratnam Pillai (E. R. Sahadevan) and Meenakshi (P. Kannamba). They are landed gentry and are highly respected in the village for their noble qualities. Meenakshi’s brother Doraiswami (T. S. Balaiah), on the other hand, is despised by all for his arrogance, cruelty and dishonourable ways. The two families are not in speaking terms ever since Doraiswami tried to usurp Ratnam Pillai’s traditional rights at the temple festival. Doraiswami’s daughter, Sivakami (P. Bhanumathi), however, is a good-natured girl who is in love with Muthaiyan. Muthaiyan too reciprocates her love and they are determined to surmount all hurdles and get married. When Doraiswami’s men capture Muthaiyan and keep him a prisoner on the pretext that he had hurled stones at Doraiswami’s prized bull when he had caught it grazing on his crops, Sivakami comes to his rescue.

Qais Ibn Al Mulawwa, son of Shah Amri is sent to Damascus to pursue his education. There he meets and falls in love with the beautiful Laila, daughter of the Najd chieftain. Though Laila reciprocates his love in equal measure, her father opposes this match and keeps her confined in the house. Heartbroken at this separation, Qais loses his mental faculties and wanders aimlessly, always uttering the name of Laila. He is soon known far and wide as Majnoon, the obsessed. Laila is forcibly married off to Bakht, a scion of the royal family of Iraq. But she refuses to let Bakht touch her. Overwhelming misery and wretchedness of her circumstances lead to her death and hearing of her demise, the grief-stricken Qais falls dead too. The lovers unite in death.
