In 1998, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
Synopsis
Grant Newbury, Deputy Inspector of Immigration at the US/Mexico border is asked by his boss to infiltrate a gang smuggling Chinese workers through the border at Calexico, in order to identify and arrest their ringleader. Meanwhile, in Chicago, Estelle Halloway is disappointed because her guardian wrote that she would not be able to spend her holidays with him in Calexico as planned. When she wires him that she will come nevertheless with her room-mate Marguerite and her brother, he tells her that they will meet instead neat the Grand Canyon as it is too warm in Calexico.Acteurs

As described in a film publication, daredevil cowboy Ned Ferguson (Mix) is hired by John Stafford (Curtis) to stop the cattle rustling plaguing his ranch. On the way to the ranch Ned is bitten by a rattlesnake and is nursed by Mary Radford (Novak), who is writing a western novel. Ranch foreman Dave Leviatt (Le Moyne) tells Ned that Mary's brother Ben (Paul) is behind the rustling. After Ben and Ned come to an understanding, Dave shoots Ben from undercover, and Ben is sure that Ned double-crossed him. Mary will have nothing to do with Ned, even after Ned saves her life during a cattle stampede. Ned finally runs down the rustlers, and Mary sees him as a hero instead of merely putting him in her novel.

As described in a film publication, to avenge his father's death Pierre Winton (Carey) turns outlaw and joins a band of bandits headed by Jim Boone (MacDonald). McGuirk (McKim), a lone bandit, is the object of his search and war is declared between the lone rider and Boone's band. Pierre goes to a masquerade ball one night and returns to find every member of Boone's band dead except for Jim's daughter Jackie (Burnham). 1930, à Aklavik. Un jour, dans ce hameau du Yukon, le trappeur solitaire Albert Johnson sauve un chien qui a été battu par son maître (Hazel) et le soigne chez lui. Hazel porte plainte à la police montée, accusant Johnson d'avoir volé son chien alors que celui-ci a bien été payé. Mais le sergent de la gendarmerie royale, Edgar Millen, ne fait rien. Hazel, accompagné de quelques amis, décide alors de se faire justice et se rend à la cabane de Johnson. Mais le trappeur ne l'entend pas ainsi et en état de légitime défense tue un des compagnons de Hazel. Edgar Millen se voit du coup obligé d'intervenir et accompagné du plaignant, de quelques amis et de son équipe se rend à son tour à la cabane de Johnson. Alors que Millen et Johnson discutent, Hazel et ses amis ouvrent le feu. Johnson riposte à nouveau en état de légitime défense et abat certains d'entre eux. Les survivants tentent alors de déloger Johnson en faisant sauter sa cabane à la dynamite mais il parvient à s'enfuir. Une longue poursuite s'ensuit alors à travers les étendues glacées que Johnson traverse pour chercher à rejoindre l'Alaska afin d'échapper à Millen et à ses hommes ainsi qu'aux chasseurs de primes qui veulent lui faire la peau.
