The film was directed by Dasari Narayana Rao and produced by U. Suryanarayana Raju under Gopi Krishna Movies. The film stars Krishnam Raju, Jaya Prada, Jayasudha, Sumalatha, Pran and Mohan Babu in the lead roles. Upon release, the film received critical reception and it is a box-office blockbuster. Inspector Ranjith Kumar (Krishnam Raju) gets a tip about an infamous exiled criminal Shakthi (Venkatesh), entering his jurisdiction, so he checks Shakthi's file. Sreedevi (Shalini) is a daughter of Kiranmayi (Jayasudha), a mad woman.
