Alors qu'il vit en quasi reclus, Malek, un topographe d'une quarantaine d'années, accepte, sur l'insistance de son ami Lakhdar, une mission dans une région de l'Ouest algérien. Le bureau d'études oranais, pour lequel il travaillait il y a encore peu, le charge des tracés d'une nouvelle ligne électrique devant alimenter des hameaux enclavés des monts Daïa, une zone terrorisée il y a à peine une décennie par l'islamisme. Arrivé sur le site après plusieurs heures de route, Malek commence par remettre en état le camp de base - une cabine saharienne délabrée ayant déjà abrité une précédente équipe, venue à la fin des années 90, mais décimée lors d'une attaque des intégristes. Dès les premières lueurs du jour, Malek se met au travail. Il procède aux premiers relevés topographiques, arpente les étendues autour du camp de base. Dans la nuit, son sommeil est perturbé par de puissantes déflagrations.

Albert (Perry King) is the chauffeur and lover for a wealthy pianist, Sills (Peter Donat). When Sills finds another chauffeur/lover, Albert is forced onto the streets of Los Angeles. Samir Sahni is a farmer living with his mom, dad, wife, Rama, a young daughter, and his younger brother, Veer. Samir gets an offer to work in the U.K., and departs accordingly. He would like to settle there, and after doing so, would like his family to also join him. The years go by, and Samir keeps in touch with his family regularly. Then the Sahni family stop receiving any letters from him, and are anxious to know what has happened to him. Veer is asked to travel to U.K. to find out, and he does so. What he finds are tens of thousands of East Indians on fake passports, working for less than minimum wages, poor unhealthy conditions, fear of being deported, and paying half of their earnings to fellow East Indians who had got them here through the underground. Veer finds no sign of his brother, and sets out to investigate, only to find deceit, murder, and his very own life in danger.
