Kuberan(Karthik), who works as a tourist guide in Kodaikanal, is the sole money-earner for a large family consisting of his good-for-nothing father(Manivannan) and his two wives, their children, his sister(Anju) and her unemployed husband(Thyagu). Kavitha(Kousalya), a singer, becomes a new addition to the house when she is cheated off her money by Kuberan's father. Romance blooms between her and Kuberan, and Chandra(Manthra), who also harbors feelings for him, opts out. Kuberan and Kavitha are married and Kavitha too takes part in the sacrifices Kuberan commits for his family.
Ponnappan (Radha Ravi), Uzhagappan (S. S. Chandran) and Azhagappan (Venniradai Moorthy) are three naive villagers who come to Chennai for becoming wealthy. However, they are cheated by the townsfolk. They decide to join hands and they begin to look for an intelligent, bachelor and good partner. The first one who comes to their mind is the lord Ganapathi. They then sign a contract with the lord (statue) : in five years time, Ganapathi will have the quarter of their benefit. The Gurukkal is the witness of this deal. To help them, Ganapathi himself appears as a human (Visu) and he becomes their partner. Five years later, Ponnappan, Uzhagappan and Azhagappan become wealthy and arrogant men. One day, the Gurukkal asks them the quarter of their benefit as promised to build a temple but Ponnappan, Uzhagappan and Azhagappan refuse it categorically. Ganapathi is shocked for being betrayed and decides to teach them a lesson.
Sathyanathan, Punyakodi and their partners are an atrocious lot. They keep suppressing the villagers and do not even allow them to get proper education due to fear of losing control over the village.
