Frank Montgomery (né Frank Edward Montgomery) est un réalisateur, scénariste et acteur américain, né le 14 juin 1870 à Petrolia (Pennsylvanie) et mort le 18 juillet 1944 des suites d'une longue maladie à Hollywood (Californie).

Il épouse une première fois Mona Darkfeather, dont il divorça en 1928. Il se marie une seconde fois avec elle en 1937 jusqu'en 1944, date de sa mort.

Sam Bisbee est un vitrier qui rêve de faire fortune, et dont les combines rendent son épouse folle. Il invente un verre incassable et va faire une démonstration de son invention à un congrès de constructeurs d'automobiles. Mais la démonstration tourne à la catastrophe. Dans le train qui le ramène chez lui, il pense au suicide, avant de voler au secours d'une jolie jeune femme, dont il croit qu'elle veut elle-même mettre fin à ses jours. Cette femme est la princesse Lescaboura, et leur amitié apporte la réussite à la famille Bisbee.

Aloma, une danseuse, vit sur Paradise Island, surveillée jalousement par son amant Nuitane. Lorsque Red Malloy lui cherche des ennuis, Bob Holden, un Américain présent sur l'île pour oublier une histoire d'amour malheureuse, la défend et gagne sa confiance. Sylvia, l'ancien amour de Bob, arrive sur l'île avec son mari Van Templeton. Aloma commençait à tomber amoureuse de Bob, mais celui-ci réalise qu'il aime encore Sylvia. Bob et Van disparaissent avec leur canoë pendant une tempête, ce qui fait se rapprocher les deux femmes. Mais Bob réapparaît, annonçant que Van s'est noyé. The story takes place in Czarist Russia and concerns an anti-Semitic police commissioner, or Prefect, Count Orzoff(Cliffe) and a woman Nadia(Barrymore) who has spurned his amorous attentions . The commissioner seeks revenge against Nadia by killing her father(W. L. Abingdon). Orzoff becomes governor and Nadia plots revenge against him and is aided by a group of Jews who are also scheming against Orzoff. In further plot twists Nadia becomes romantic with Orzoff's son Sergius(Robert Elliott) and in a bit of payback stabs Sergius in retribution for her father's murder. Sergius is only wounded and Nadia thinking she has killed him tries to commit suicide but Commissioner Orzof's guards stop her. For the rescue of his son, Nadia somehow gets Count Orzoff to sign papers admitting to persecuting Russian Jews. Nadia is in Orzoff's mansion completing the deal, when that group of Jews set fire to the house killing Nadia, Orzoff and Sergius.

A romance between King George III of England and a Quaker girl, Catherine, who becomes his morganatic wife, forms the early part of the story. Catherine is really half Indian, being the daughter of a French adventurer and an Indian woman, adopted and brought to England by a Quaker voyager. The hardships of the American colonists are shown and their rebellion against the English rule. In this rebellion, Catherine sees a chance to avenge herself upon the King, who has legally married a German princess. She goes to America and becomes a power over a tribe of Indians. One of her aids is her own brother, who had been adopted by a colonist. Brother and sister are unaware of the relationship until the close of the story. The gallant fight which the Americans under General Washington wage against the English troops and the Indians under Catherine's lead, form a thrilling phase of the story and the chief incidents with which every American is familiar are dramatically set forth. In addition, there are several minor plots and romances, some of which end happily, others tragically, when the war is over and the fight for freedom won.
