Nivin Pauly (born 11 October 1984) is an Indian film actor best known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He made his debut through Malarvaadi Arts Club (2010) directed by Vineeth sreenivasan and produced by Dileep. Later, he went on to act in films including Thattathin Marayathu (2012), Bangalore Days (2014), Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015) and Premam (2015).
In 2015, he received his first Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Bangalore Days and 1983.

In 2000, George (Nivin Pauly), a 16-year-old pre-degree student, develops an unrequited love for Mary (Anupama Parameshwaran), the so-called "prettiest girl" in the region of Aluva. George and his friends Shambu (Shabareesh Varma) and Koya (Krishna Shankar) follow Mary and her companion Celine (Eva Prakash) around every day. George decides that he wants to propose to Mary, and Shambu and Koya accompany him to do so. However, George does not propose quickly enough, and is heartbroken to learn that Mary is in relationship with a different boy, also named George. The final scene of this stage ends in 2002 where George, Shambu and Koya feel depressed realising that they have failed in their pre-degree final examination.

The story is set in an engineering college, where Umesh (Nivin Pauly) is studying. Umesh is a carefree engineering student, who has 42 back papers to clear. Varun Blake is an Indian-born Atlanta police detective that is deeply affected by various incidents in his life like the loss of his biological family in India, the move to a predominantly white school in The States, and the death of his partner. He develops into a temperamental and disturbed man, forcing his Indian wife, Roshni to divorce him and move out of their home with their daughter. Varun then gets into a complicated rebound relationship with a local news reporter, Kate. After gaining American citizenship, Roshni gets a job at a newly outsourced Indian company based in Atlanta called InfoTech. She soon discovers that the company's young but successful director is her childhood friend, Krish Hebbar. The two start seeing each other outside the office, much to Varun's dismay since he still has feelings for his ex-wife. Things take a turn for the worst when several Indian-born young men working for outsourced companies have been found murdered by a professional serial killer. The only link is that all the murder victims knew Krish. Varun brings him in for questioning but does not have enough evidence to arrest him. At around the same time, Krish's true colours are revealed when he blackmails his boss into giving him a promotion, forcing Roshni to leave him on the night he plans to propose. After more investigation, Varun learns that the real murderer is a former soldier who was fired from several jobs who were then taken by Indian immigrants. The soldier comes for Krish, who took over his job several years ago.He is finally saved by Varun. In the end, Krish marries Roshni and they move back to India to work for the Indian branch of their company to be closer to family.

In a remote village in Kerala named Brahmamangalam, the people have a passion for cricket. From India winning their first Cricket World Cup in 1983, to present times, the story follows the father-son relationship of two generations. As a teenager Rameshan(Nivin Pauly) is passionate about cricket and performs well in his academics. His father (Joy Mathew) wants his son to become an Engineer one day. Rameshan is in love with Manjula (Nikki Galrani), who is studying in the same school. He is part of a local cricket team, formed by his close friends, and wins many local tournaments with his above par performance in batting. However, with time his academic results turn very poor and even fails in his 12th Board exams.Even if he fails in his academics, his love for the game remains the same and his father continues to protest against this. The film begins when Vasudeva Shenoy (Anoop Menon), a police constable by profession, proposes to his colleague Lakshmi (Lena) with a strong objection from Vasudeva Shenoy's mother. In the meantime Kunjunni Menon (Santhosh Keezhattoor), a thief, who disguised as a police inspector, falls in love with Lakshmi. Kunjunni Menon then convinces Lakshmi and her family to agree to marriage. Lakshmi later comes to know that her husband had cheated her. Lakshmi and Kunjunni however pretend to have an amicable marriage as she gives birth to Adithyan (Dulquer Salmaan). On the same day Vikraman (Unni Mukundan) was also born to Vasudeva Shenoy and his new wife. Laksmi further gives birth to two daughters. Kunjunni gets caught by Shenoy after committing a theft and was dragged to the jeep in front of his son (Adityan). Adithyan becomes very depressed and refuses to accept his father. Kunjunni unable to face his son, commits suicide. Adityan (Dulquer Salmaan), Vikraman (Unni Mukundan) and Deepika Pai(Namitha Pramod) befriend each other as schoolmates and the story proceeds to their adulthood.
