Paresh Mokashi (born 6 February 1969) is an Indian filmmaker, producer, actor and Theatre director-producer; working predominantly in Marathi cinema and Marathi theatre. He started working as a backstage worker for theatre and did few minor roles for plays as well as films. Mokashi made his directorial debut for theatre with the Marathi play, Sangeet Debuchya Mulee in 1999. He continued to work for theatre and made his directorial debut for cinema with the 2009 Marathi feature film, Harishchandrachi Factory. The film depicts the making of India's first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra (1913), made by Dadasaheb Phalke. The film was acclaimed critically and won several awards. It was also selected as India's official entry to 82nd Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Sameer Rafilini (Salman Khan), de retour en Inde après s’être installé en Italie, vient pour parfaire son enseignement musical et suivre des cours de chant auprès du maître Pundit Darbar (Vikram Gokhale). Celui-ci l’accueille dans sa maison et le loge dans la chambre de sa fille, Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), ce qui contrarie beaucoup celle-ci. Sameer et Nandini finissent néanmoins par tomber amoureux l’un de l’autre. Hélas, les projets de Pundit Darbar pour sa fille sont tout autres : il souhaite marier celle-ci avec Vanraj (Ajay Devgan), également amoureux de Nandini. Pour cela, il fait promettre à Sameer, redevable de son enseignement musical, de quitter l’Inde et d’oublier Nandini. Sameer, contraint, accepte et repart pour l’Italie.

The title's eponymous 'Elizabeth' is a bicycle that is gifted to the talented Dnyanesh by his father after whose death Dnyanesh takes to supporting his mother. The family lives in straitened financial conditions and on the eve of Ashadhi, financial necessity forces Dyanesh's mother to sell Elizabeth to a pawn-shark. Dnyanesh and his group of friends must now find a way to recover Elizabeth which forms the rest of the movie.
