Novembre 2008, à Bombay. La ville de Mumbai est frappée par un vague d'attaques terroristes dans des lieux de grande fréquentation. Des hommes armés prennent notamment d'assaut l'hôtel de luxe Taj Mahal Palace & Tower en prenant en otage les clients et les employés. Au milieu de ce chaos, plusieurs personnes tentent de survivre et d'échapper au massacre. Alors que le chef du restaurant et un serveur indiens vont risquer leur vie pour protéger leurs clients, un couple de touristes britanniques, accompagnés de leur nourrice et d'un autre voyageur russe, veulent à tout prix de protéger leur nouveau-né. Pendant ce temps, le monde entier découvre en direct ces évènements tragiques, ce qui se déroule à l’intérieur dépassant l’inimaginable. Délaissé par les secouristes, les clients et les touristes ne peuvent que compter sur eux-mêmes pour survivre.

Âgé de 12 ans, le jeune Henry Turner a finalement réussi à trouver la localisation sous-marine du navire de son père : le Hollandais volant. Une nuit, il se faufile hors de chez lui pour aller en mer. Une fois arrivé au dessus de l'endroit précis où le navire est positionné, il se laisse couler avec des rochers et atterrit sur le pont. Le bateau émerge du fond de l'océan et Henry se retrouve nez-à-nez avec son père, Will Turner, et lui annonce qu'il a trouvé un moyen de briser sa malédiction et de le libérer du navire : le trident de Poséidon, capable de contrôler les océans et d'annuler toutes les malédictions maritimes. Bien que touché, Will ne croit pas qu'une telle chose soit possible et ordonne à son fils de ne jamais revenir et de ne pas risquer sa vie. Henry est renvoyé sur la terre ferme mais jure de retrouver le capitaine Jack Sparrow pour qu'il l'aide à sauver son père.

An Indonesian fishing boat abandons a group of Iraqi and Cambodian men on a remote part of the Western Australian coast in 1990. Told there is a bus over the dunes, the men are abandoned to a desert the size of Poland. While most are quickly rounded up, three men with little in common but their history of misfortune elude capture and begin an epic but confused journey drawn on by their hopes amplified by the empty desert. Pursued by an army reservist unit more concerned with playing ball sports and music, the three protagonists wander deeper into trouble, searching desperately among the harsh beauty of the Pilbara for evidence of a Western, liberal democracy or the promised bus, which only one of them finds.

Angelo Donnini and his younger brother Gino are of Italian origin, living in Australia in the 1950s. Angelo is insecure, silent and introverted and not at all good-looking, while Gino is the complete opposite: outgoing, funny and handsome. Angelo looks for a wife and writes letters to Italian girls in hope of a match. But his letters are always returned with his photograph. One day, he desperately sends a new letter with a picture of his brother to Rosetta, who falls in love instantly with the man in the picture and therefore accepts his marriage proposal. When she arrives in Australia she is of course appalled that Angelo does not look like the man she thought she had married. However, she stays, to try to gain Gino's affections. But Gino has a girlfriend, Connie, a wise and tough girl who knows exactly what she wants. She loves Gino, but wishes he possessed more of Angelo's qualities. Though Gino tries to avoid Rosetta, he cannot help but eventually fall in love with her. Gino and Connie have an argument and they call it quits, and Angelo and Connie start to develop a romance. In the end, Rosetta, believing that she has failed to gain Gino's affections, decides to return to Italy with the help of Father Alfredo. Gino follows her onto the ship and they embrace. The couple then marry. In the final scene of the film, which seems to be few years later, it shows the wedding party of Connie and Angelo, while Gino is married to Rosetta and they have a newborn baby.
