Stephen Barton (born September 17, 1982) is a British film composer who has lived and worked in Los Angeles since 2001, when he wrote additional music for Dreamworks' Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, as his first job. He attended Wells Cathedral School in Somerset, England, graduating in June 2000. Barton began his career as a composer and arranger under Hollywood film composer Harry Gregson-Williams at Gregson-Williams' studio, Wavecrest Music.
Barton has scored music for film, television and video games. He has worked on film projects including Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont, for which he was the composer and conductor. Moviescoremedia reviews the work, "With the delightful and moving score for Dan Ireland's award-winning drama...Stephen Barton recently emerged as one of the most interesting composers in the film business."
Barton has composed numerous solo projects including the video games Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and the Tim Allen film, The Six Wives of Henry Lefay, as well as scoring James Cameron's Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away for Paramount Pictures. He works extensively with Sir Anthony Hopkins since producing the soundtrack for the film Slipstream in 2006. These projects are part of a diverse resume of over 36 feature films and video games to which he has contributed music, including Jennifer's Body, Sir Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, Tony Scott's Deja Vu and Man on Fire, Ben Affleck's Gone, Baby, Gone. He worked extensively on both the Chronicles of Narnia, and the Shrek franchises; he wrote a song on the platinum-selling Shrek 2 soundtrack.
His musical composition and production work includes television, writing the music for I'm Alive, for Animal Planet. He also composed music for MTV's animated program, Disco Destroyer.
Barton has performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (UK), Jean-Yves Thibaudet and the Maggiore Musica di Firenze.
Currently, he is at work on the score for Titanfall, a widely anticipated animated game, recorded at the Abbey Road Studios, which is due to be released in Spring, 2014.
Composer Stephen Barton...will be responsible for creating the music score for Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall, due out this Spring...Barton will complete his part of the score at Abbey Road Studios utiliizing a large orchestra to create his arrangements.
Barton has scored other games for its creators in the past including Call of Duty 4.
His music studio, Afterlight, where he composes music for films, videogames, and TV shows, is located in Los Angeles. Barton is a voting member of the Recording Academy.
