Rachana is a 1983 Indian Malayalam film, directed by Mohan and produced by Sivan Kunnampilly. The film stars Srividya, Nedumudi Venu, Bharath Gopi and Mammootty in lead roles. The film had musical score by MB Sreenivasan. Bharath Gopi won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film.
Unni (Nedumudi Venu) and Sethu (Sukumaran) are two bachelor friends staying together in Chennai. Though irritating at sometimes, with his music talents, the house owner Varma (Jagathi Sreekumar), a music director is always ready to financially support them at times. One day, Unni gets a letter from his father, asking him to receive Radha (Poornima Jayaram), daughter of his friend who will be arriving at Chennai to join at a company for a job. At railway station, both Unni and Sethu fall for her and both try all methods to woo her. Radha is accommodated at the house of Mary (Sukumari), a colleague of theirs, who is also a sister-like figure for them. As she approached late after the joining date, Radha is denied the job. Sethu introduces her to V.N Nair (Sankaradi), his manager, also a womanizer and gets her a job at his company. This creates a friction in the friendship between Unni and Sethu. Both, but fails to express their feelings to her, instead fight each other bitterly over issues, leading even to physically attacking each other. One day Radha introduces them to Balachandran (Mammootty), whom she addresses as her fiancé and asks them both to attend her wedding without fail. Realizing their foolishness, Sethu and Unni patches up and reaches back home happily. But at home, Sethu gets a letter from his father informing the arrival of daughter of one of his friend in Chennai. As both rushes to railway station to pick her up, the cards starts rolling.

This politician Dussasana Kuruppu (Bharath Gopi) is the president of the village. He along with his other members tries to demolish the bridge on advice of his fellow party member, his right hand and crooked mind Sikhandi Pillai (Nedumudi Venu). The opposition leader Ishak Tharakan (Thilakan) makes moves to thwart this and to capture the position of the village presidency. As a compromise step, both groups agree to relocate the bridge to a distant location so that not only a new bridge, a new road also will be needed to reach the bridge.The two tenders, one for bridge and one for road is given to two local contractors, one belongs to the ruling party and the other one supported by opposition. Ultimately the bridge is built and opened to public on the same day of the marriage of Dussasana Kurup's daughter and the Bridge contractor. The marriage function is attended by many including the minister of state for public works department and the entire people who came for marriage walks through the bridge causing it to collapse killing the crippled Kathorayan (Sreenivasan). The film ends by showing the broken bridge in the background.
