Starring Venkatesh, Revathi played the lead roles, with original soundtrack by Ilaiyaraaja. The film was a musical blockbuster of the time, but recorded as Average at the box-office. It was dubbed in Tamil as Anbu Chinnam. Suresh remade the film in Hindi as Love with Salman Khan and Revathi.
Synopsis
Pruthvi (Venkatesh) was an orphan and tries hard to become a great singer. One day he comes across with a beautiful, naughty young girl Maggi (Revathi Menon) and they both fall in love. But when he approached Maggi's parents to ask her hand in marriage, his criminal background comes in between and they disagree. In past Pruthvi has killed his father as his father was the reason for his mother's suicide.Acteurs

This film depicts the disputes between two forms of the dance styles and music, Classical Indian (in particular Carnatic music and Bharathanatyam danceform) against rural Tamil folk music and dance. The film depicts the misunderstanding and mutual ignorance of the two factions. The parallel plot in the movie is of the children and intended successors of the respective dance doyens falling in love with each other. Ramu (Venkatesh) leads a carefree life, living along with his widowed mother in a village. He was in love with Usha (Rambha), daughter of Dharmaiah (Gollapudi Maruti Rao), village president. Jailed as a juvenile for killing his abusive father (Sudhir Kumar) who is responsible for his mother's suicide, Prithvi (Salman Khan) is unable to stand any atrocity. He meets Maggie Pinto (Revathi Menon) and after a few chance meetings, they both fall in love. Maggie takes Prithvi to meet her parents, but they reject him after learning about his criminal past. When Maggie and Prithvi persist, Maggie's mother, Stella Pinto (Rita Bhaduri), calls the police and has Prithvi jailed. Guruji (Amjad Khan) comes to Prithvi's aid and bails him out. Prithvi and Maggie continue their courtship, but Stella finds out and intervenes, sending goons to attack Prithvi, during which Maggie is injured. How this affects everyone close to her is the crux of the story.
