Appu (Mukesh) works as a bearer in a five star hotel at Palakkad. He happens to meet Chandran Pillai once, who is a millionaire based in Ooty. Appu rescues Chandran Pillai from an accident.When Chandran Pillai returns to Ooty, the people who were after him turn towards Appu instead. Udayananu Tharam is the story of Udayabhanu (Mohanlal), a worshipper of films and an immensely talented assistant film director, who yearns to write and direct his own movie at a time when the industry is filled with dubious filmmakers. Rajappan Thengummoodu (Sreenivasan) is a rather crooked friend of Udayabhanu and an aspiring and failed actor. As Udayabhanu finally prepares to shoot his first movie based on his own script, he discovers to his horror that Rajappan has stolen his manuscript, and shooting is underway with Rajappan playing the lead, which eventually propels him to stardom. Udhayabhanu soon finds himself faced with a career and personal crisis, with his faltering relations with his superstar wife Madhumati (Meena Durairaj) contributing to the latter.

G.K Rayudu (Kamal Haasan) is a corrupt Mayor and along with his assistant Charan Raj takes bribe and sells a market to a rich businessman and forces the poor people doing business in the land to move out threatening physical harm. Although Rayudu is married (to Srividya), he has a mistress. Rayudu comes to find out that his assistant and his mistress are married and has been cheating him out of his money for a long time. He finds the assistant’s stash of diamonds and takes it. After spending some time with his wife and kids, Rayudu gets a change of heart and decides to expose his and his assistant’s illegal activities. Parthasarathy (Jayaram, popularly called Parthan, lives in Krishnapuram village. Parthan is constantly clashing with his uncle Falgunan Thampy (Jagathy Sreekumar), who is the Panchayath President. Jagathy Sreekumar - Kumar Kubera (Kumaran) and Oduvil Unnikrishnan - Prabhakara Prabhu (Prabhakaran)are former friends, business rivals and bitter enemies. They want to outdo each other in everything, and specially when it comes to when marrying off their daughters. Rocky (Zayed Khan) is a man who lives in Mumbai with his parents. Rocky's weakness is that he is very hot-tempered, unruly and ruffian. He very often gets into fights for injustice. One day he gets into a fight with a man who works for a criminal named Anthony (Rajat Bedi) and beats him up. Anthony warns him not to cross paths with him. One day while rocky is with his girlfriend Neha (Isha Sharvani), he sends Anthony's brother to the hospital. When Anthony finds out, he confronts Rocky and Neha and kills Neha. He mocks at Rocky. An angered Rocky loses control of himself, making his family turn him away. Anthony threatens Rocky's family to leave Mumbai. The family along with Rocky eventually moves to London. There Rocky try to forget his past life. His father lied to him that Anthony has been sentenced to death by the court. Three months later, Rocky's friend, Vikram Singh, visits to inform them of the progress of the criminal prosecution of Anthony. There Priya (Minnisha Lamba), a tour guide and Rocky's friend, is molested by some people. When she shouted to Rocky for help, he unlike before, took a conservative path and walks away with her without even reporting in police and she complaints Rocky to be a coward, Vikram tells Priya the truth about Rocky. The way he was living, why he's always quiet. Thereby Vikram tells him that Anthony has escaped the trial by killing both the eyewitnesses. On hearing this Rocky felt shattered and wants to get revenge. Later on Rocky travels back to India, along with his parents. Anthony comes to know that Rocky has returned to Mumbai. He then pays a visit to his home where he encounter Rocky's Dad. His Dad tells him to meet Rocky at the same spot where he had killed Neha several months ago. The movie ends on Rocky beating up Anthony badly.

Muthuveerappan (Rajinikanth) comes to the city from his village for a song contest. He meets Ravikanth (Senthil) in the city and they both work hard for the song contest. Muthu tells Ravikanth about how he fell in love with Devayani (Meena) and how he got her to love him. Devayani is the daughter of a song teacher in his village. He came to this contest so he could win the money and pay off the loan his mother had to the village leader. They both work together and end up winning the song contest. Muthu then goes back to his village with joy and finds out a flood had come and Devayani's house had been destroyed, it was reported that her father and her body had not been found. Muthu thinks that Devayani is dead, and is very sad. He then goes and gives the money to the village leader, paying off his mother's debt. His mother takes him to the city so that they can find a job and so that Muthu can forget about Meena. When they reach the city Muthu finds out that his song was a big hit. Therefore he had become very popular. The holder of the song contest (Janakaraj) calls on Muthu to come work for him. Muthu does not want to, but his mother persuades him. He then works for Janakaraj and his daughter falls in love with Muthu. Muthu who is still in love with Devayani refused to marry Janakaraj's daughter Roopa (Roja Selvamani). His mother says Devayani won't come back and she wishes to see his marriage. Therefore he marries Roopa. Soon after the marriage she has to go on a business trip to the USA. Meena was in fact alive but has amnesia. Muthu's songs are playing on the radio and Devayani happens to hear it and she remembers again. She promptly gets on the bus to the city from a village where she was helping the fisherman who saved her life. She meets Muthu at the recording studio. He is surprised and overjoyed but doesn't tell her about his marriage to Roopa . Devayani is then adamant to get married soon, so they both get married. He then juggles both of his lives (as Muthu, Devayani's husband and as Veera, Roja's husband). He nearly gets caught when both Roopa and Muthu with Devayani go to the saree shop and bump into each other. So to prove that they are two different people he takes a photo and photoshops it to show two of him shaking hands. They then all believe Muthu and Veera are different people. A thief who Muthu had caught and handed over to the police takes revenge by kidnapping his wives. The thief also knows that both are one person, and when he comes to save them it is revealed that both are one person. After he saves them both his wives fight over him, one says that he officially married her first (Roopa) while the other(Devayani) says that she fell in love first. His wives don't want to share. When he tries to explain they go away angrily. Muthu then leaves the city to go back to his village. When he gets home he finds them both in his house. The film ends with them both holding his bag as he enters the house.

A college principal Janardan Rao (Vijay Kumar), keen to inculcate discipline in the students, gets his one time student and protégé Rajkumar (Chiranjeevi) posted as Telugu lecturer there. The ideal lecturer that he is, Rajkumar mingles with the students and becomes a comrade in arms and fools around with them in order to control them. One of his students Kanchana (Sakshi Sivanand) falls in love with him and asks him to marry her. He refuses her politely, saying that she will rescind her proposal if she knows his past and the flashback follows. During his student days in Delhi, Rajkumar falls in love with Preeti (Roshni), his guardian angel Janardan Rao's daughter. Vikram (Sathya Prakash) also loves her. When Preeti turns down his overtures, Vikram kills her in rage. Rajkumar in turn kills Vikram and goes to jail for five years. After serving the jail term now he has come back as a lecturer.
