The film was later dubbed and released in Telugu as College Gate.
Synopsis
Sathya (Prashanth) and Vasanth (Ajith Kumar) are very best friends ever since from their childhood. Manivannan is working under Sathya's mother and he wanted his daughter Pooja (Pooja Bhatt) to get married to Sathya so that he could be a wealthy man for the rest of his life. For this he makes many tricks and pranks to make them walk together alone, to go for a ride and many more. On Vasanth's birthday Sathya goes to wish him but he denies his wish and says birthday is no more meant to him. Simultaneously Sathya's mother decided his son to get married to Pooja and the engagement day arrives. With informing her, when she enters the house as all the other guests did, Manivannan insists her to wear the engagement saree. Knowing the situation she leaves the place crying and Sathya follows her. On middle of the street he shouts at her and asks the reason why she can't marry her. She immediately shows her wedding thread which she has hidden from all and cries that she was already married.Acteurs

Sridhar (Ajith Kumar) has been trying to become a music director for eight years. Ganesh (Parthiban), the product of a intercaste marriage, loses several prospective brides due to this and spends his time dreaming of marriage. On a busride to Chengalpattu to take up a promotion as bank manager, he is involved in an accident. The scene shifts to three months later when he finally shows up at Chengalpattu. Nandini (Devayani), living in the house opposite his, showers affection on him, giving him coffee, providing him with hot water, etc. But when he with his parents, visits her to talk about marriage, she rejects him. Revealing the real reason behind her attachment to Ganesh, she tells him of her ill-fated love affair with army officer Subramani (Ajith). Eager to send him on his way, Nandini sends a letter in Ganesh's name to Ganesh's home, accepting the latest girl they picked for him and Ganesh returns home to find arrangements for his wedding in full swing. Coincidentally, the girl turns out to be someone (Suvalakshmi) he had dreamed of marrying during his pre-Nandini days.

Tirupathi (Mammootty) is the eldest of four brothers and the head of a respected family in the village. Pappu an eight-year-old boy who is very mischievous always troubling his mother. His mother scolds him when he eats the toothpaste, urinate in bed at night. Pappu falls down on a road one day and a young woman helps him. Pappu's elder brother plans to watch adults movie with his friends in the absence of their parents and Pappu wishes to join him to which his brother does not allow him. The old man introduces himself as a scientist who has his own laboratory. He insists Pappu to help him in his research of transforming a child to a young man. Pappu agrees and the scientist transforms him to a young man. Pappu starts to live as a young man physically but as a child mentally and stays away from his family. The only person other than scientist who knows the truth is his child classmate friend. Pappu meets the girl at a park who helped him once he fell down on road. Innocent child Pappu helps to remove dust from her eyes, smiles at her and leaves the place. The girl is very much attracted towards him and she looks for him every day.
